BAXTER
I couldn't be happier as I sat in the Livingroom, even though I was doing homework. Lux had picked my work from the days I hadn't gone to school this week and helped me with the information I missed. Jamison has been around for the past couple of days but was behind on paperwork and apartment renovations so he was out today, leaving me to peaceful silence. He took care of me and even bought me new things when it was not needed to help me feel more at home. I was happy and it felt like nothing could ruin my good vibe bubble. I knew on Monday school would automatically bring my mood down but at least I had an escape, a place that felt like home. Not going from one hell to the other and back again. I stuck out my tongue as I worked my way through the next math question squinting at the page like it was going to give me the answer. With a sigh I decided to actually do the equation and put in the work to solve the question.
Three hours later I just finished my work when a phone rang making me jump. I quickly looked around only to find out the phone was in the Jamison's home office. I chewed on my lip debating on whether or not to go in answer it, not wanting to intrude but what if it was important. The phone stopped ringing but only for a moment before it started up again. I think twice in a row is important. I hope he doesn't mad. I murmured in my head before walking into his office.
"Hello Jamison's residents, Baxter speaking?" I said nervously after picking up.
"Hi.... No offense but who are you?" A gruff voice said in reply.
"Um I'm a friend of Jamison's, do you want me to have him call you back or do you want me to bring the phone down to him?" I asked my nerves climbing by the second.
"Nah its okay, I think I'd rather talk to you. If your picking up the phone in his suite does that mean you're Jamison's mate?" He asked, I could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke.
"I don't understand, what do you mean by mate?" I started to get very confused but just in case I made my way to the front door, keeping the phone pressed to my ear.
"Oh nothing, my parents were British so I sometimes say mates instead of friends, and I just realized you already said you were a friend of Jamison's." He replied with a half hearted chuckle.
"You don't sound British though?" I replied as I made my way towards the stairs. I didn't know why but the man over the phone made me feel slightly uncomfortable so I wanted to go to where I felt safe.
"Yeah, my family moved to America when I was very little so I didn't get the sexy accent. What a shame that is." He chuckled making me laugh back nervously. It didn't take long to get down to the first floor which made me happy so I quickly made my way to the office.
"Eh, accents are over-rated anyways." I said simply out of respect because I didn't know the man. I gave a small knock on the oak door and entered quickly making the large man behind the desk stand up. "Hey look, here he his now. I'll let you talk to him now."
"Oh.. okay. Well then you have a good one Baxter." The man replied before I handed the phone away. Jamison took the phone with no complaint and pulled me into his chest.
"Yes Aaron, What can I do for you?" He asked gruffly as he rubbed my back. I couldn't hear the other end of the line but only a few words were said before he hung up.
"I'm sorry, the phone rung twice in a row and I wanted to be sure it wasn't an emergency." I automatically said as soon as the conversation was over.
"Sweetie stop apologizing for things there is no need to apologize for. I gave you free rein of the apartment, which also means my office. So no need to say sorry, and I'm very happy you brought the phone to me." He said with a soft coo as he walked backwards into his chair. He sat down and quickly pulled me into his lap with a big smile.
"Okay..." I smiled uneasily back making him tilt his head like a dog.
"What's wrong little one?" His eyebrows dipped slightly as he rubbed his thumb between my shoulder blades.
"Nothing, the man just asked a couple questions and I didn't know how to respond so I felt uncomfortable but I dint want to be rude because I didn't know how he knew you." I said ducking my head embarrassed the only a couple questions made me feel that way.
"You can be rude to Aaron as much as you'd like. I don't care for the man much myself anyways. He just called to check up on something." He said back and gave me a small kiss on the head. "There is one thing I do need to talk to you about though. Just remember I'm here no matter what."
"Umm what about?' I asked quietly as my nerves came back full force making me tense up.
"This is an odd question with you already living with me, but how old are you?" He asked while trying to sooth me by running his free hand through my hair with the other stayed wrapped around me with his hand still on my back.
"I'm seventeen... I turn eighteen on the 23rd though." I said back confused.
"Okay, this weekend, I can work with that. I'm not telling you this to stress you out, I just you to be happy and safe so I want you to know this just incase." He gave me a small smile in reassurance as he paused. "When we were leaving the house yesterday I saw you father. I didn't say anything to you at the time, but I don't want to hide things from you either. You turn eighteen in six more days so I don't have to worry about him filing you as a run away because you'll soon be of legal age to move out and even if he does the law will more than likely ignore it because you are close enough in age. I wanted to verify just incase but I now see there was no need." He smirked and continued to play with my hair practically forcing me to relax into his touch.
I can finally be free
(A/N) So I ran into this unexpected little snag while writing out my time line to see where I am at. When I updated I said it was exactly a week from the gala.... Well I went back to look at Baxter's time line I realized in Chapter 1 I said Three more weeks, well that puts the gala and his birthday on the same weekend. Going through the chapters its been approximately 15 days which puts his 18th birthday on the weekend of the Gala. So this will be fun to see how I play this one out because I don't even know yet.
**Semi-Spoiler** And for my friends out there worried about the age difference nothing big is going to happen before his 18th birthday and because of Jamison's age (I have him at 26 if I never put his age in), so I only find that appropriate. Sorry to crush your hopes if you were hoping for sooner but to me that's a line I don't like crossing unless its critical for the story plot. I do understand that legal age of consent is 16 but the parents can still press charges so I want to wait until he is 18. Also different states have different laws so ima just going for a all around problem killer and calling it good.
