They could almost remember it like it was only a few minutes ago.
Their biggest night yet.
Given as they were about to pull the solar systems biggest and possibly most dangerous sneaky, the crew and you, their beloved captain, threw a large party in the tavern at Monarch. You being rich off of spoils earned by your grubby little monkey hands paid for everything legally for once, "For the sake of supporting my guy, Sanjar's local business, of course," you said.
You all had a blast, and your crew had never felt so alive before, so whole. They were about to head into one of the most dangerous gigs of their life, and couldn't be happier to do it with you taking the lead.
After mingling with the folk of Monarch, you all decided to take whatever was left of the partying to the Unreliable. Your crew had left ahead of you while you took your time to bid Zora and Sanjar farewell, and goodluck with their endeavors. Then you soon followed your crew, with a slight slack in your step.
No one knew, but you were scared to death of this failing. Even if this job came out a success you still had a whole load of pressure weighing on your shoulders. First and foremost you had your crew to keep safe, then you had your fellow residents of The Hope, and after that, all of Halcyon.
But still, you kept your act together and trekked onwards.
After you boarded your ship ADA immediately started complaining to you about Felix and Ellie nitpicking at eachother again. You suppressed a slight chuckle at the scene and headed upwards to see it happening for yourself.
There stood Nyoka, pouring herself another drink as she let little Felix talk her ear off as usual. Parvati was slinking off to the side singing a tune to herself, and at the center of the kitchen was Ellie standing on the table debating Existentiality with Max, who stood below with one leg kneeling on a chair.
You just watched, leaning on the entrance, smirking as you pulled your drink to your lips. This was a pretty good family you had found yourself, one worth fighting for, without a doubt.
If it ever came to it, you'd give your life for them.
And you did.
You all managed to pull off smuggling The Hope over to Phineas' lab, and got pretty far into your revolution, but just as you came close to the end, your crew was caught in a trap and held prisoner. You managed to set them free, but they needed a distraction to escape, and you were on your last stand anyways.
So you walked out to the hall where the men stood with their guns readied, and you took every single one of them out, including yourself.
You had taken precautions in case such an event occurred, and gave your crew what they needed to finish the job, so did just that.
They camped out at the headquarters of The Board as the building got cleaned out. It took awhile before they could find the stomach to step foot on the Unreliable again.
Fights broke out among them as they blamed one another for "who could've done better," "who was moving on too quick," and "who needed to move on."
Eventually they settled their bouts and united again. Boarding the Unreliable one last time, they cleaned her out, leaving your room untouched. They walked into your quarters, looking around at all of your familiar keepsakes from journeys once taken, and battles once fought.
Felix being unable to contain his curiosity opened up your chest to find all of your favored weapons and clothes. He let out a laugh remembering some the silly things you'd wear.
After rummaging about for a little while longer he found some letters one with every crewmember's name.
After promptly handing them out they all opened their letters and read through them, some wandering off to do so in private, others plopping down in place either with eagerness or shock, perhaps both.
They were goodbyes to your crew, your beloved family. Each containing a will as to who got what.
Honestly the crew knew how much of a kleptomaniac you could be, but still they were surprised to find just how many stashes of hidden goods you had spread about the solar system.
Though what excited them most was to also inherit your favored weapons, being as they were practically apart of you. You devoted hours to tinkering with them and sustaining their quality, you had named them and made a reputation with them. So to be given ownership of them was the highest privilege.
So with that done, the crew took one last moment to collectively remember you. You, their flawed captain, who charmed your way into their hearts no matter how rough your beginnings. You, who went along with their schemes no matter how childish. You, who walked with them every step as they moved past their traumas. You who held them back and grounded them in their darkest moment. You, who gave them a home. You, who took them on the biggest adventure of their lives.
And then they said
Goodbye, Captain, thanks for the ride.
Sorry if this comes out awful. I got the idea to write this late at night, and I'm oh so tired, but nevertheless, I hope you enjoy. ~ HioYagari
