Chapter 5: New Powers

Darkrai's POV

It was soon clear to me why this was a level 5 dungeon. Right after we entered we got attacked by different types of grass pokemon. Zorro, who was used to fighting, dodged the attacks easily and fired back as soon as he could. I was also able to avoid the attacks, but made no attempt to attack myself. I had no idea what powers I possessed so it seemed like a better idea to wait instead. Zorro noticed how I was doing nothing other than dodging the attacks and jumped up in front of me after shaking off a group of Cherrims.

"It's easy, the attacks come naturally. You'll use your powers when you need them, simply let your instincts take over."

I nodded at his instructions and tried to focus on my surroundings. Despite the fact that it was the first time I was fighting, I knew exactly what to pay attention to. Zorro stood next to me, now focused on our attackers as much as I was, and then there were said attackers, eyeing us closely.

"Ok, so the first attack I will teach you is punishment." Zorro said as he readied himself for the attack. The pokemon had been waiting since the moment Zorro stopped attacking and I was wondering what was keeping them from launching themselves at us while we were doing nothing.

"Don't worry, they can't do anything as long as we don't." Zorro replied to my unspoken question. I looked at him, surprised by what he'd said, but soon turned back to the pokemon again, still not entirely sure if it was true or not.

"They can't attack as long as we don't." He elaborated. "That is one of the rules of the dungeons. The other is that you can only use your orbs in the dungeons. There's a mysterious force on top that keeps you from using them."

"What kind of mysterious force?" I asked him, having no idea what he was talking about.

"No one knows exactly what kind of force keeps us from using our orbs, it's just the way it is." Zorro answered with a shrug. "Now like I was saying," He continued. "Punishment is a simple attack. Many dark type pokemon learn that first."

Zorro launched himself at the pokemon in front of us the moment he finished his sentence. The pokemon, who had previously been waiting for an attack, now evaded Zorro's punishment and attacked back when they saw a chance.

What Zorro did looked easy, so when he seemed to start having a hard time I attacked the Cherim closest to me with punishment as well. Zorro smiled at me as he straightened, his claw showing a purple glow as he defeated three Sunkern with one blast

"That was shadow claw, you also possess that power. You can evoke the attack by bundling negative energy and focus it on your hand."

I looked at my own hands and focused, trying to create some kind of purple glow. It didn't work. I frowned, and instead closed my eyes, taking a deep breath and concentrated on every time the other legendary pokemon bullied and humiliated me. I especially focused on Mew, that wicked witch Mew who used my love for her against me.

"Very good Darkrai!" I heard Zorro say. "You're a natural."

I looked up to find Zorro grinning at me. I grinned right back and launched myself at 5 Sunkern which I instantly knocked out. I turned back to Zorro and laughed, I'd done it! Of course something I hadn't yet learned was to never turn your back on attacking pokemon, which made me miss the Houndour that appeared behind me.

"Darkrai look out! Behind you!" Zorro suddenly yelled. I spun around and instantly saw what the Houndour was planning to do, he was going to use his flame thrower.

"Use Shadow ball! It's the same as shadowclaw just focus on both your hands instead of on one."

I closed my eyes and tried to focus on both hands this time. Soon I felt the power course through me, it was empowering beyond measure. The houndour growled, as if he wasn't sure what was happening. I tried to aim at him, but when I fired I found that aiming wasn't as easy as I'd thought it to be. I missed the houndour by an inch. "I gotta teach you how to aim, this won't work." I heard Zorro say behind me jokingly. Out of nowhere there was another shadowball, perfectly aimed at Houndour. The pokemon disappeared with a bright flash.
