Chapter 7: Temporal Tower
Darkrai's POV
The days after the Apple Woods incident everything got better. Zorro was a real friend, which became apparent from the way he talked to me, stroked my hair whenever I did something right and... well... the talking part was actually the main thing. There was no nasty barking in his voice, like there would be when talking to a Growlite, which did me good as I could actually converse with him normally. Also, he didn't hit me every time I did something wrong like Arceus did. It was marvelous to live without all that pressure and hard work.
We often had long walks in the woods, sometimes returning to Apple Woods for supplies, but in contrast to the last time I wasn't afraid to use my powers anymore. I could even use Dark Void without feeling afraid that I might hit Zorro by accident.
Naturally I had become better at aiming after that first time. But even if I'd had a good aim I wouldn't have used the power without Zorro's trust. That trust was all important, considering that based on that trust he was also teaching me how to control more difficult attacks. He did so in different dungeons in the region, which was amazing to see.
But even while I was staying with Zorro the nightmares kept coming about the future I would create.
Exactly a month after I had arrived in Zorro's cave, he broached the topic.
"Hey Darkrai, are you feeling ok? You're always tossing and turning in your sleep."
I turned red at the question, having no idea what to answer. All through my time with Arceus that had been rule number 1: don't talk about the dreams from the future. The only exception was that one time, the first time I'd had such a dream
I looked at Zorro and back at the ground, suddenly very interested by all the little rocks scattered around. "I-" I started stammering, not at all sure if I should really tell him this. If I did and he didn't like me having those dreams, he might want nothing to do with me anymore, he might even send me back to Arceus! On the other hand, if I didn't say anything, I would intentionally be keeping something from a friend. That would be unfair.
"I've been having nightmares lately." I finally admitted. "Nightmares about a future that I would create..."
Zorro's POV
"Wow, that's so cool!" I told him with a wide grin. "How did it look?"
Ever since he arrived here I'd been taking care of him, worrying about him. I had known that there were things he'd rather not disclose to me yet, and I knew that what he was telling me now was a new step in the process of completely trusting me.
"Well, it's always dark and every pokemon acts hostile towards others." He started explaining. "And if I remember correctly it all started with Temporal Tower, something happened to it."
I was watching the back of the cave, thinking over his words. Temporal Tower was the home of Dialga, the Master of Time. Wait a minute, that was it!
"Dialga is the Master of Time, and Temporal Tower is the center of time. If something were to happen to it, the whole world would fall into a lasting darkness." I told Darkrai with a grin. A plan started forming in my mind, and if Darkrai was willing to help there was nothing that could go wrong.
The little nightmare pokemon watched me with a frightened glint in his eyes, as if he could read minds and already knew what I was planning on doing.
"If Dialga finds out we're both toast. You know that right?"
I nodded slowly in response, I knew that we would get into serious trouble if Dialga ever found out it was us, but the chances for that happening were smaller than small. I also knew however that if we did this we would finally have a world in which both of us could be happy.
