It was the night before my birthday, the 20th of November, being the goofy 8 year old that I was I had stayed up past my bedtime and had gone to each room in the large consuming Greene mansion hunting for surprise gifts and perhaps a surprise birthday party. However after two hours of expectations and eagerness,I had been disappointed to not find anything.
I had felt a sudden sense of betrayal then,my parents always used to plan something big for my birthday, but that night they weren't even home.

My mother and my father had gone out that morning for some stupid conference and had promised to be back by 8,but it was almost midnight,I remember how my mother would always be the first one to wish me,my parents would enter my room together and then my mother would race to my bed to wish me before my dad. That night however,no one competed to wish me.With that sad thought I had gone into my room and sadly crawled into my bed.For the first time in my life,I remember how I thought that my tears would be cutting my birthday cake.

I had not realised that I had fallen asleep because after what had seemed like a second,I had been woken up by my aunt Meredith who had tears streaming down her face.

"What happened aunt May?" I asked.

"Dear, you have to come with me,wear this" she told me in a broken voice, passing me a fur coat that lay near my bed.

I held her hand as she took me downstairs and I was confused at the sight that awaited me.

My father was kneeling on the ground with his head in his hands and was sobbing loudly,my mother's sister Samantha was sitting on the couch with an expressionless face. The only person missing was my mom.

"Auntie, where is mother?" I asked aunt May.

"Honey.." She said kneeling down in front of me.

"Your mom ..remember the tales about the brave witches of Ipswich who were too good for the magical world that they had to find another place to live in and so Merlin had invited them over to his land near God to spend life in eternal peace?" She asked me gently,I nodded and she continued.

"Well sweetie, your mother is.. was one of the greatest and most kind hearted witches of all time, so God was too greedy for a soul as pure as her's, and so he called her and situations prevented her from going against his will and so my dear, your mom, she is safe with god." she concluded.

I felt a tear trickle down my cheek as everyone in the room looked at me with kind and pitiful eyes, I was too young to understand the seriousness of the situation so I had done what I needed to, I sat down next to my father and hugged him while I wept quietly.

"Daddy, it'll be okay, I will take care of you and you will take care of me and when God decides to send mommy back, she will come to us." I  said, consoling him...

Suddenly, I heard loud knocks at the door and I knew it instantly that it was mother, she'd finally come back from god's place! We'd celebrate my birthday just like the old times..
The knocks grew louder and I grew more impatient, as much as I wanted to greet mom at the door something prevented me from doing so, something warm and soft...
The knocks were now accompanied with shrill cries "Open the door Charlotte, our acceptance letters have arrived, open the door and get ready and come down" I realised that it was not my mother behind the door because the voice was very unpleasant and high pitched, just like...

Catherine's.

I'd been dreaming of that fateful night again..I sat up in my bed and rubbed my eyes that were sore from probably crying in my sleep.I get this same dream almost once every week and have always woken up crying. Ignoring Catherine's thunderous knocks,I got out of my bed and slumped into my bathroom and looked at the mess in the mirror,my hair was tangled and flying in all directions,my eyes were red and swollen and the dried up tears were visible on my cheeks.
