When the cars pulled into the parking lot we could see Daniel leaning up against his car with his arms crossed.
He looked like shit.
He had bags under his eyes and stubble on his chin that didn't even look like stubble and more like a beard.
I got out of my car and went to the back to get Mason and Athena out of their car seats.
Gabbie, Jack, and I all walked over to the tall blonde that stood up straight when he saw us.
"So you needed your bodyguard" he scoffs looking at Jack.
"I mean yeah, I didn't feel like being pinned against a wall again" I shot back looking him dead in the eyes.
No one knew about that part of my interaction with Daniel that day so to say that Jack and Gabbie had shocked faces was an understatement.
"Can I just have some time with my daughter?" He asks looking between the three of us.
I nod and hand Athena over, watching a smile form on her face. Mason, who was always excited to see Daniel, was hiding behind my leg looking up at him.
Mason may be two but he's too smart for his own good.
We started walking towards the sand, Mason stayed by my side the entire time, too scared to run away from me.
Gabbie and I had brought our surfboards to hopefully get some waves in but if we didn't then we could take some pictures with the girls standing on them with us.
We set up our towels and put all of our stuff down. I watched Daniel take Athena to the edge of the water and hold her there in his lap as the water rushed up to their legs.
"Why didn't you tell us about him pushing you against a wall?" Jack hisses sitting next to me.
"It wasn't important information" I shrug watching the tall blonde's every move.
"It kinda is important information. What would you do if he had hurt you?" He asks getting slightly more frustrated.
"Hurt him back" I replied nonchalantly shrugging my shoulders again.
"You're twice his size how-"
"Just drop it" I cut him off.
Daniel came walking over to us with Athena's small hands in both of his and her tiny feet on his.
I put a wide smile on my face and stick my arms out for her and she just smiles.
"Is my little baby walking?" I ask giggling when I pick her up. I sat her on my stomach and laid down on my towel making some goofy faces at her.
"Your mama's little beach babe" I laugh kissing all over her face before handing her back to Daniel. ~~~~~

"Y'all want some food?" I ask standing up and dusting the sand off my legs.
"Uh sure. You're going to the hut place down there right?" Jack asks pointing to the tiny restaurant down the beach. I just nod and he gives me their order.
"Daniel do you want anything?" I ask trying to be nice. I throw my oversized shirt over my head and let it fall to mid-thigh and grab my wallet from my backpack.
"Yeah I'll just walk with you," he says standing up.
Athena whined a bit so I picked her up and placed her on my hip as we started walking in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence but it wasn't a comfortable one either.
"Can I just explain what happened that night?" The tall blonde asks sticking his hands into his swim shorts pockets.
"No" I respond quickly wanting to go back to the silence we had.
"Austyn" he calls before pausing. He stops walking and tugs on my elbow making me stop and turn to face him. "I miss us. I want to make it right. Please just let me explain"
"You know what Daniel? I don't miss us. I'm actually happier now. I have Mason and Athena and I don't need you" I lie straight through my teeth. I could see the hurt fill his eyes as he looks away from my eyes and around the beach. "I don't know if you came here today to see Athena or if you were trying to get back with me. I don't know what your intentions are nor do I care. I'm done with you"
I turn back around and start walking again knowing that I really hurt him but he hurt me first. He broke me first.
