"Here she is" I mutter passing Athena off to her father.
Daniel smiled widely when the little girl was placed in his arms. He started tickling her making her squeal and laugh.
"Here's her bag as well," I say again putting the bag on the center island.
"I'm only home for another week so I was wondering if I could get her a few nights before I left" Daniel stated holding the girl's back against his front with his hand under her butt.
"Yeah sure," I reply trying to get to the door.
"That's it? Just 'yeah sure' and you're gonna leave?" He asks sounding hurt.
"I already said bye to her outside," I say back turning away from the door to face him.
"Will you finally listen to what I have to say?"
"How many times will you ask that?"
"How many times do I have to ask before you let me talk?" I just huff and cross my arms over my chest and look down at my white shoes.
"Did you love me?" I ask looking back up at him.
"You know the answer to that" he whispered putting Athena on her play mat.
"No. I don't. I know what you always told me and that could easily be a lie so I'll ask again. Did you ever love me, Dani?" I ask again.
My throat felt like it was closing up and I had to clear my throat before he answered.
His blue eyes stared at me not knowing what to say.
"I did love you. I still do love you but you told me you didn't want me so" my eyes narrowed and the lump left making my voice harsher.
"You don't get to do that" I hiss.
"Do what?"
"You don't get to play the victim. You don't get to act like you didn't have a choice that night. You don't get to say you love me then pull what you did. Do you have any idea how many nights I stayed up late just to talk to you? Or how hard I tried to keep this family together then I find out you threw it all away because of some British bitch you'll never see again?" I yelled making Daniel flinch.
"Austyn-"
"This is exactly why I never let you explain your side because I can't have one conversation with you where I won't end up yelling or going home and crying wondering why I wasn't good enough for you" my lip quivered making me bit down on it to make it stop.
"I love you Austyn" he responded with his eyes glistening and that made me weak. He walked towards me and I stood in my same exact spot.
I just wanted to wrap my arms around his neck and hug him as tight as I can but at the same time, I want to slap him and make him hurt as much as I did.
"You never loved me you just loved the thought of having someone solid by your side" my head was looking up at him because of the major height difference.
"Don't say that. Never say I never loved you. You don't know how much and you never will"
Daniel's large hands cupped my face and brought it towards his. He kissed me softly but deeply and I let him do it. I didn't stop him.
He's just going to hurt you again.
I was standing on the tips of my toes kissing him back even though my brain didn't want me to.
My body was acting impulsively and I'm glad it was. I was missing his kiss, his touch.
I just wanted him to touch me again and again.
It's been a month since he cheated but it was the longest month of my life. No matter how much I wanted to hate him, how much I wanted to despise him, it always changed when he touched me.
Everything around us disappeared like it never existed.
Daniel's hands trailed down my back and to my butt. He picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist keeping our lips intact not once breaking our make-out session.
My back hit the wall that was close to us and I wrapped my arms tighter around his neck bringing him closer to me.
Athena started talking gibberish making us break apart and look at her.
We then looked at each other and started giggling like lovesick teenagers. Both of our lips were swollen and sore but neither of us cared.
I put my neck in the crook of his neck and held him closer to me, not wanting to let go.
"Don't hurt me again, please" I whispered closing my eyes.
"The only people you have to worry about hurting you are the girls, Zach and Jack" he whispered back chuckling breathily.
