After the first week at home Maya wasn't sure what to think about her brothers.

Or how to act around them.

She was an only child her whole life she didn't understand what does it mean to have siblings. So far they were mostly ignoring her, all of them except Simon who once in a while tried to start a conversation but Maya just didn't know how to open up to him.

There was tension in the house. She was a new, unknown element in what seemed to be a well-oiled machine. They all had a strong bond that was impossible to miss. Salvatore was in a most obvious way a leader of the pack as everything went quiet when he appeared and everyone was listening to his orders without a single complaint.

All of her brothers were at least head taller than her and something was terrifying about each and single one of them, something cold in their eyes.

Despite that, it was hard not to notice how their personalities are drastically different. For example, Diego seems to be always ready to snap, he was loud and unpredictable when his twin Alessio seemed to be the opposite. He was quiet, controlled but also had that bored, arrogant look on his face.

Gianni and Simon had been a little less scary but also they have been bothering her more often than the older twins. Gianni was overjoyed over the fact that he had a new sister while in Simon Maya has awakened some sort of protective instincts that Maya didn't want to know anything about. She just wanted to stay out of her brothers' way until her mother wakes up or until she will find a way how to stay with aunt Nina.

Maya, unfortunately, had to take into consideration that her mother won't wake up but she pushed away those thoughts as they were too much of a burden for her at the moment.

Still, there was something she needed.

A plan B.

The custody hearing was her chance. If she proves that Salvatore is unfit to be her guardian she will be placed under Nina's custody again. That would be just perfect.

She wanted to get away from these scary people.

Unfortunately for Maya proving Salvatore being unfit would require Maya pushing some boundaries and checking if he snaps. If she makes him hit her he will surely be deemed unfit right? However, Maya wasn't certain if she wants to check her theory and pushing Salvatore seemed like a terrible idea even in her head. When he was nearby she could barely breathe in his presence, he was so intimidating.

She was always what you may call "a good girl" sometimes when the tension rose and confrontation was required she would just run away. She wasn't the type of person who was standing her ground and fight, she was the type of person to give up before the fight even started.

That's what she hated about herself.

Simon as always entered her room to ask if she wants something to eat and finally Maya said

"You don't have to do this"

"Don't have to do what?"

"You know... try to be friends or something. Mom will wake up and I will leave"

Simon stayed quiet. Maya had no idea that even if her mother did wake up she would never be going back to her place. Salvatore wouldn't just simply let his younger sister leave like that. She was a part of the family and she was here to stay.

"Maya is starting school next week. I don't want her to be alone in the meantime so you will choose a day of the week to spend with her"

"I don't want to spend time with her"

"I'm not asking you what you want Diego"

"I can stay on Friday," Simone said
