(A/N; Hello everyone!!! I am truly sorry that this chapter took so long. In all honesty I was about to post the new first chapter and it was deleted. Anyway, I scrapped that idea and started fresh. I hope you enjoy this chapter and are excited for more to come!!)
It was rainy the day your parents had decided to leave for the new house. The sky was gray and ominous, pouring thick rain and casting bone chilling winds through your neighborhood. "Good." you thought, maybe your parents would push moving back by another day. Alas, you knew it wouldn't be. You were currently stationed in your room packing the rest of your things you had yet to box. It wasn't a considerable amount, a couple books, your salt lamp, and a few little trinkets that were laying around. You let out a sigh and bitterly rested your hands on your hips.
Things were going great here! Both your parents had stable jobs, you lived near family, and, more importantly to you sophomore year was almost over. Yet here you were. Moving to a different state because your parents eyes had been glazed over with a sparkly new job offer practically thrown at your dad. The job itself wasn't even that great, your parents had just leapt at the opportunity because the job offered to pay half a loan to any house your parents had wanted in an hour's range from the job site. The town you would be moving to was apparently a mix of city and suburban. There were lots of attractive, old neighborhoods and houses with a relatively short drive to the 'big city.' But it's not like your mother had a job, she had just kept saying she'd "find one" when the family got there. All for some stupid job. It's not like your family cared that you would have to join a new school much less restart the year you had barely finished.
Letting out a sigh, you cast a last fleeting glance and deemed that nothing was left. Closing and taping the box you suddenly heard a tussle from down the hall and it seemed to be getting closer by the second. Great, your brothers were coming. Your door was flung open and you watched as your two brothers shoved their way in.
"Why are you in here." Your voice was flat if not a little hostile, a slight sneer obscuring your face.
Your brothers stopped their playful attitude.
"You're the only one who isn't excited for the new move. Maybe if you just tried to be excited and gave it a chance, the family would be more accepting to what you have to say."
You couldn't help the eye twitch and had to take a deep breath before managing to hiss a "Get out." The one brother giggled while the other had a smirk on his stupid little face. At least they left after that. Letting out a sigh, you picked up the last box and took a look around your room. This was it. You were leaving forever. Leaving your friends, your school, your past life. Shaking your head slightly you turned and pushed your way through the door frame. You didn't like how quiet the house was, sure your brothers were being loud in the living room, but this was different. It was like time had frozen, like you were stuck in an empty shell of what used to be.
Silently walking into the living room you were met with a few different sights. First of all, your brothers were rough housing in the space where your couch used to be. Second of all, there was a pile of things that would be placed in the car. The pile mostly consisted of jackets, umbrellas, sweaters, rain boots, anything to combat the weather. There were on top of that, five bags. One for each member of the family. In the bags were basic things like water, portable chargers, puke bags, and whatever the owner had wanted to throw in. Everyone would additionally have one pillow in the car as the drive was supposed to be a long one. Lastly, you saw a small stacking of boxes. Leftovers obviously waiting to be stacked in the moving van. Speaking of which, from the lack of parents, you assumed that they were most likely out there loading boxes.
Not wanting to help you shuffled your way into the kitchen and stopped at the counter that had everyone's phones and iPads plugged in. No one wanted to be caught with a dead phone at the beginning of the drive so almost every kitchen socket was full. You picked up the phone to look at the time, 1:34 pm. That meant as soon as all the boxes were packed in the moving van, which was almost done, the family would be shoved into the car and the great migration would begin. All you knew was that the trip would take at least a fourish days not including stops.
You quickly unlocked your phone and checked your downloaded music. No way you would make it through this trip without it. You then made sure you had everyone's phone number. Going through your contacts, you saw everyone important was there and no one was "missing". Putting your phone down you looked up as your parents ran through the door. Both were soaked to the core yet they looked happy. Your mom was laughing, and your father held a goofy grin.
Through her smile your mother let out a content sigh, "Only a few boxes left, then we hop in the car and move to our new lives. Boys, will you help us take out these last few boxes?"
Leaning against the counter, you watched your family grab the remaining boxes and decided that you would prepare for the rain and car ride. Quickly you slipped away and used the bathroom. Washing your hands after, you made your way into the barren living room to start putting on rain gear. First you grabbed your comfy sweatshirt and threw it on over your current shirt. You already had travel clothes on, including comfy socks, so you slipped on your boots. Technically they were snow boots but you didn't care. They were water proof either way and you were most likely going to take your boots off in the car. Last but not least you throw on your big shell rain jacket and zipped it up. Now you were really waterproof.
The rest of your family had emerged through the front door right as you were putting your umbrella into your pack. You had spared them a glance while zipping the bag and noticed that your brothers looked at the very least moist. Thankfully for you, you were dry and warm.
Your mother suddenly clapped her hands. "Right, who's ready to get this show on the road!" Her voice was preppy and the whole house cheered. Even you had put a discouraged "Ya." into it.
Now that you were equipped, you tossed your pack over your shoulder and turned to your father.
"Which row am I sitting in?" Your tone was bland but you figured that the sooner you got in the car the better it would be.
"Look at you champ, get in the car first! Your mother and I decided that you can have the very back row, and all too yourself."
That had seemed to catch your attention. You slightly tilted your head and blurted out a quick "thanks."
"The car should be unlocked so you can go hop in."
Your father had a beaming smile, and you couldn't help the slight excitement peeking over your attitude. Turning you lightly trotted back into the kitchen and grabbed your phone and charger. Shoving the two items into your pocket, you pulled your raincoat hood over your head and slowly made your way back to the front door. Now that the excitement had slightly faded, you turned and captured one last look at your old house. Holding onto the doorframe you gathered a deep breath. As much as you didn't want to leave, you knew that you would have to either way. Taking a moment to bask in the memories, you shut your eyes and took a deep breath.
Then, you left.
(Ending A/N; Hello again, i just wanted to say a few things. First of all each chapter will be about 1,000+ words. I want every chapter to kind of be a set up for what's to come next. I also want to say that I'm not quite sure what direction this story will go as I am still deciding. I have at least the next few chapters planned out but after that it's really just a free for all. Last but not least I have decided that there will be at the very least a chapter a week from this point on. There will be new updates every Friday so be sure to stay tuned!! Excited to see where this story will go but for now, Byee.)
