"never be so clever, you forget to be kind"
             marjorie, taylor swift
—————————————————
ivy was eating in the great hall with reggie, listening to him describe his latest catch as seeker.  she didn't notice professor sprout walk up behind her.
"ms la rue" she spoke, causing ivy to jump. "professor dumbledore would like to see you in his office, oh, and you'd better go to mr black."
ivy was worried about what it might be, so she ran, dragging reggie along behind her.
"ah, ms la rue, mr black, do come in". the old man himself said as he sat down behind his desk.  "i'm afraid i have some awful news for you."
ivy was terrified about what it might be, she hoped nothing had happened to her parents, with all the attacks going on.  her worst fears came true, when dumbledore told her that her mother had passed away in a car crash that very morning, and that ivy and regulus would be given a weeks leave to go to the funeral.
—————————————————
ivy was in shock.  regulus led her out of the office while she sobbed.  she had no idea what her world was now.  her mother had been one of the only people she had been around when she was young, and was almost more of a sister.  she remembered how when she was learning to swim, her mom would always go past where ivy's feet could touch.  she remembered how her mom was always going outside in the autumn breeze.  she remembered how on every grocery receipt, her mom would sign her name; marjorie.  if her mom had been magical, she would have been a ravenclaw.  her mom was the smartest person that ivy had ever known.  and now she was gone.
—————————————————
at the funeral, ivy and her dad just sat and held each other.  most of the black family came to pay their respects as well.  ivy got up and talked about her favorite memories with her mom, and creon talked about how he loved her mom at first sight, and how he knew they were connected from the moment he saw her.
—————————————————
ivy was a shell of who she once was.  she felt empty.  some nights she would wake up calling for her mom, wishing that she was there to help ivy with everything again.  ivy was determined to keep her moms memory alive, she also knew that her mom would want her to live her life, not keep moping on the couch all day.  so at the end of the week, ivy got up.  she got dressed.  and she went back to school without tears.  she did what she knew her mom would want.
