"Lyric," one of my best friends, Dillan, whispers from across the classroom where her assigned seat is. I open my eyes groggily to see everyone in my classroom staring at me, even the teacher. I pick my head up off my desk and give a cheesy apology smile, one that my teacher just has to reply to, "Man you just think that angelic smile will get you away with anything. One day I'll punish you for falling asleep in my class," Mrs. McCain says with a completely straight face.
Not like she can really do anything though, my mother would be down in that principles office raising some holy hell. But I continue to sigh and sit up, flicking my curly brown locks off my shoulder, and adjusting my tank top. This is the longest day ever, I can't ever seem to get a break, this lonely old town just gets... well, boring.
I look across the room to Dillan to see she's already looking at me, thinking the same thing as me. After we get out of here well grab the rest of the crew and head out to the Railroad tracks.
Come on, 8 more minutes... I hate this stupid science class. Anyways, me and the crew were pretty original outsiders. We all had something going for us, but we weren't necessary popular or anything too great. Dillan has been one of my girls since about 5 years ago when she was the new girl sitting in the cafeteria all alone. I decided to invite her over. And we loved that blonde curly headed girl, and she grew a liking to us.
Really I guess I should tell you bout the gang. Of course, Dillan, she's a shorty full of energy and excitement, her parents moved to our little small town when our Mayor retired. Her father ran and now he's our Mayor and is doing a freaking good job at it.
Jaylisaa has been my girl since the beginning of everything, along with Cheyenne but we'll get to her in a minute. Jaylissa and I grew up running around the farm chasing chickens and getting into major trouble. We're inseparable except when they would go on vacation in the summers and all was left was Cheyenne and I. She's a skinny thing that looks good to all the boys. Let's see, well she's also my ride everywhere. Basically all that.
And Cheyenne is my main girl, basically since birth we have been together. Our mothers are best friends and we'd constantly be at each others houses and farms playing. I would always take against her that I was older, but that girl grew like you would not believe. People always said we looked a lot alike but she was always much taller than me, she has strawberry blonde hair that's wavy, and I have brown curly hair. Anyways, we are like best friends and do everything in our group.
There's also Ashton, who's Marissa's boyfriend. He's a total sweetheart that moved here when we were ten, they've always had this little thing going since the beginning and started dating last year. Jaylissa's boyfriend is Calum, he's a tan hotty, but I really wouldn't date him, he's like one of my best friends. Umm, oh. And Dillan is dating this totally sexy guy named Luke that can basically make you want to stab yourself because he's that gorgeous.
So that's our little gang. I'm Lyric, and I have curly brown locks that reach mid back, and dark blue eyes. I'm a huge flirt and haven't gone anywhere out of our little town in Piggly. My mother is a musician, writes a lot of music and plays all kinds of beautiful instruments. I've always been really into music, and people always found it ironic how I love to sing and my name is Lyric. Anyways, I'm a country girl, and all American.
*RING*
The bell that signals that we are out of class rings and I grab my books and rush to the door with Dillan hot on my tracks. "Ug, that stupid teacher is always on my case," I groan to Dillan who chuckles slightly. I give her a weird look then carry on walking to my locker to put my books away.
"I mean, she isn't that bad Lyric. Maybe you should really just pay attention," I smirk at poor clueless Dillan.
"Umm, like that'll ever happen. Will you please tell the gang that we're meeting up down at the tracks?" I give her puppy eyes and she bursts out laughing. Apparently people think I look 'adorable' when I make that face, umm... it's sexy guys.
I shake my head at her and turn to my locker, 142. We have a pretty small school, so we don't have that many lockers. I open my locker and place my boring science books in the locker and grab my bag and flute.
I look down the now almost deserted hallway, except for the few couples making out and the others that have their own vehicles. I sigh and walk down the hallway towards the exit when a tap on my shoulder stops me... not again.
"What do you want?" I say without turning around.
She chuckles and says, "You know what I want. I want you to leave this school, I want you out of here," and I just chuckle. "Valerie... why do you try? You know I'm not leaving," and without another word I walk towards the exit yet again.
As I push the heavy school door open, the warm end of summer air hits me and makes me smile. My t-shirt that says, 'Greenday' across it flows because it's a size too big. And my shorts accent my tan I got over summer.
I see Cheyenne over by Ashton's truck and I smile as I make my way over to her. "Chey!" I call over to her(pronounsed as Shy).
Chey's head whips around and she smile brightly and we do this little thing like we are running through a field to the love of our lives. We both laugh hard after we collide and fall to the concrete. "Chey, did Dillan tell you we're meeting at the tracks?" I ask. She nods and looks to her left then right, "I gotta tell you something."
She grabs my forearm securely and drags me off to the side of the school, "I heard that Missy Curtly is gonna break up with Bryan Danton," she whispers.
Yep, Cheyenne was always really into the gossip, and I'd always get involved.
"Annddd?" I ask not quite unsure of what she is trying to tell me. "He's liked you since third grade! And you'd guys make the perfect couple," she says and I shake my head.
"No Chey, I don't want to date him."
"Why?" My girl pouts, she looks like a tall three year old. It's cute but hilarious.
Right as I was about to answer her Ashton's voice calls to us, "Y'all need a ride?" Chey smiles and runs up to kiss her boyfriend while I walk over to the truck and violently wiggle the door handle until Ash pats attention.
"Are we going straight to the tracks?" I ask Ash, I usually go with Dillan, but I'll text her and tell her that I just went with Ash and Chey.
"Yeah, if that's ok?" He asks and I nod and smile. He's a total sweety, like, he makes sure everything is ok.
He turns on the radio and Greenday comes on and I start to fangirl. "This is why she can't get a boyfriend," Chey teases and I glare at her.
"That was not very nice at all..."
Anyways, it takes us about an entire two minutes to get to the railroad tracks and I wouldn't stop singing on the way.
The rest of the gang is there... but there's an extra car there. "Who else is here?" I ask Chey, and she shrugs.
Hmmm...
Hey guys, this is a totally new book. And I hope y'all love it. Have a lovely day.
