Her Golden Eyes

The breeze picked up as she stalked through the woods. The grass seemed to shiver as she walked past. Her power was seen by all living beings. She stared as she smiled sadly at the burned path. She never wanted this life. Everything she touched just seemed to end up dying. She sat down on the ice cold rock that she always sat on. The black and cold rock somehow calmed her heart. She watched as two other girls bounded around the corner. She smiled. She seemed to forget all she lived for when she was alone. She always forgot that the sun would always rise.

Corinne's POV
I watched as the two sisters laughed and ran at me. They called each other sisters, not because they were, just because we were the only people in the Great Forest. Sophie's hand-made green dress flowed in the autumn breeze. Maya laughed as she hopped over Sophie. She wore a coat of plum blue and pants of cold white. Her shirt showed of her slim figure even from a mile away. I wore a red shirt with a black leather jacket and black pants that were as dark as night. We worn these colors to enhance our curse and our gift. You could call them either. I snapped out of my dazed state as the girls ran up to my rock. "Corinne stop being a bore, come on, we're playing tag!" Maya screamed as she tried to dodge Sophie's outstretched hand. Sophie blew her pixie cut hair from her eyes. She slowed and put her hands on her hips. "Corinne is just afraid of losing." Sophie smirked as I glared down at her. "No, I am looking for dinner. So if you would kindly leave me to..." I stopped as I saw Maya go wide eyed. She whispered, "Someone is in the woods." Maya's head jerked and she slowly pouted her finger to a thick bush. Sophie stared in the direction Maya was pointing. The autumn breeze seemed to pick up as the tension grew. Maya flipped her long, wavy hair out of her eyes. She slowly walked toward the black rock in the middle of our favorite clearing. The leaves rustled and I looked up into the storm gray sky. "It's not a person, look." I pointed up into the pale sky as a giant black bird flew past. It shined like it was made of steel or some other metal. It was bigger than most of the great oak trees and had a wheel that spun on the top. As it flew the trees shook violently like a tornado was blowing through. Sophie, Maya, and I didn't say anything after it passed. We ran. We ran across the fertile grasslands covered by oak trees to the Great Oak. The Great Oak was our home. It was the only home we had ever known since the horrible man died. I growled as I remembered the murderous man. Sophie looked over and I saw hate in her eyes as well. She always seemed to know what I thought. However, Maya wasn't watching, she was diving into the Great River. The Great River was a clear sky blue with tiny fish that swam in figure eights. Maya practically lived in the water. She could communicate with any living creature in the water. She mostly communicated with the larger predators. Sophie ran to the Great Tree and climbed it at such speed the giant black mystery bird would be ashamed. She lived there and spoke to all land animals. She had many squirrels to keep her company as she hide. I knew where I was to go. I normally went and followed one of the girls. Normally Sophie since I didn't have to use any of my powers to get to her tree house. I loved them both but I could see they needed time alone. I stormed into my cave of darkness and snapped my fingers. A flame burst to light in the palm of my hand. I looked around the dark and dry cave. It was always hot in the cave which I called home. A black leather bed with black wool sheets lay on a ledge right above a chasm. The chasm lead down to a pit which no light reached. The light down in the chasm came from magma that flowed like molasses. Red crystals seemed to be frozen on the roof and sides of the deep cave. In a niche in the rocky wall was a fire that had meat strung above it. In the middle of the stone room which Sophie called a living room was a carved rock seat with black wool on the top. I looked around and went over to the corner of the cave and heard a rustle behind me. I turned and simply stated, "How can I help you Miss. Water Princess?" Maya walked in and glanced around and stroked one of the many red crystals. "Corinne, I-I'm nervous." I stopped smirking as I saw Sophie nervously dart in behind the nervous water princess. I looked at both of them and raised an eyebrow at the glance they shared. "The giant bird landed on the lab!" Sophie blurted out. "What! That isn't possible, we saw the giant bird pass right by the forest." I started to pace as Maya bite her lip. "Yeah, but we didn't see where it went after it left the clearing's view. It could have curved back to the horrible place." Sophie had tears in her eyes and I saw vines sprout from cracks in my so called home. Maya placed a hand on my shoulder and I shrugged it off. What was a giant bird unknown to even Sophie doing it this abandoned forest?

Mystery POV
As we flew over the woods I sighed. I hated looking for criminals. The stupid killer decided to break out and travel half-way across this ungodly world. I couldn't believe this murderous man's strength. He used to live here, but we took him into custody after we searched his destroyed lab. We found he had run tests on three girls, but there were no pictures. He always said he would come back. Now he has. But that didn't matter, the government assigned me to this task, so I must bring him back, hopefully alive. I looked over at my two interesting companions. One was named Agent Stromberg. He was handsome and a loyal soul. Besides doing detective work he sang to millions of hearts all over the world. He had brown hair with forest green eyes. He was known all over the world, except for this infected forest. He huffed as he looked over the vicious land. Some called it the Infected Place. They said all the animals feared the man who had escaped. They all said he ruled this area, but that was just a rumor. Another agent stood next to the control panel of the helicopter. His name was Agent Unknown. He was handsome, he is a womanizer but very caring when you get to meet him. He was known as the greatest model to ever live. He never believed that. He got his name from the rest of the agency. No one knew his parents, only his first name. As he pointed to a clearing up ahead I looked out. I noticed a large tree right next to a sky blue river. The river curled across the ground to a giant opening in the ground. "Hey, look in that clearing! Someone is there!" I heard Agent Unknown almost yell in excitement. I looked down into the clearing and saw a black rock. Then I saw her. She had golden eyes and glowing red hair. I saw two other girls next to her but I didn't care. I stared out the window as the helicopter zoomed past the sight. "We have to go down there, they could know something." I knew that was a terrible lie, but I had to see her. I bite my lip and silently prayed. I prayed that maybe she wasn't evil. I prayed she wasn't just a trick of the mind. But my two other companions saw them to, so they must be real. The handsome player near the front of the helicopter pointed down towards a large block of iron with no windows. It looked like the escapees abandoned lab. "Down there, we can stop there for the night." Agent Stromberg or as he likes to be called, Keaton, smiled. "Time to find out who those black rock babes are." He smiled. Agent Unknown laughed. They looked at me expecting a smile, but all I could think of was her golden eyes.
