The Curious Ones

Saphyra's POV:

I wake to the sound of my mom stomping down the hallway "Saphy if i have to come in there I will not be happy." she sings laughing at the end. I groan and get up. When my mother gives me a warning I don't stick around to find out the consequence.

I head towards the bathroom and turn the lights on. My hair is super curly and frizzy. I groan grabbing my frizz control oil. I use the bathroom and when I finish washing my hands I head out back into my bedroom to check my phone.

After scrolling through social media I decided to pick out an outfit to "make an impression" my mom says I should do for my first day. I ruffle through my closet and grab a pair of really ripped skinny jeans a over sized blue velvet sweater and my all white low top converse. I decide I need a black cami under my sweater and I tuck in the front.

I grab my backpack, phone, and car keys running down the stairs. I lay my backpack and keys down by the door with my shoes and turn into the kitchen. I grab a bowl of cereal and milk and sit on the counter. I eat my food quickly and clean the bowl out once I'm done.

I slip on my shoes and grab my things. I yell a see you later to my mom and walk out to my pride and joy. My parents bought me this jeep recently as a graduation present even though I have six months til I graduate. I hop in my Jeep and throw my things in the passenger seat. I push the start button and clip my seat belt in place. I reverse out of the driveway going left on the dirt road.

I arrive at school in about 10 minutes and find a parking spot in the middle of the lot. I feel peoples eyes on me as I get out and grab my stuff. I press the button on the handle locking it. I walk straight ahead looking for the office entrance. I spot the door and head over towards it. A group of kids block my way and I walk around and continue towards the office.

I reach the office with no other interference's and wait in line for the receptionist. Soon it's my turn "Hi im Saphyra Miles I'm new here." I say softly. "Yes Saphyra your father told me we should be expecting you." she says typing on her computer. She hand me my schedule, locker number combo, and a map. She points me to my first class and I thank her and walk out of the office into the busy hall. I take the receptionists direction to my first class, AP English.

I walk in and greet the teacher she assigns me to a spot in the middle along the wall. I take a seat and pull out a notebook and a pen. Soon students start filing in and a blonde girl sits besides me. "Hi im Maddie" she states "Saphyra but everyone calls me Saph." I smile writing down the subject at the top of the page. She chats with me until the bell rings and the teacher gets up and jumps into the lesson not introducing me thankfully. The class flies by and the bell rings. Everyone gets up and heads out the door. I put my things away and grab my bag getting up.

"What's your next class?" Maddie asks entering the busy halls with me. I grab my schedule and hand it to her. "AP Calculus!?" she exclaims making students look at us. I laugh quietly and nod. "People say I'm pretty smart." i shrug walking ahead. "Pretty smart, don't you mean genius?!!" she exclaims handing me back my schedule.

"Well here is AP Calculus" she says pointing at the door behind me. I thank her and turn into the door heading for the teacher. She has me wait by her desk until the bell rings. "Good morning class this is Saphyra Miles, why don't you introduce yourself. " She says as all the students eyes fall on me. "Hi most people call my Saph and my favorite color is Yellow." I say blushing at all the eyes. I've never been good at talking in big groups. She points me to the only open seat by Aria and I quickly walk back there.

She smiles at me and I smile back pulling out a different notebook and pen for notes. Math has never been my favorite but I'm good at it so I challenge myself with taking hard courses.

The rest of the morning classes are eventful and no other teacher decides to embarrass me further which I'm thankful for. I head into the lunch room and grab a tray and put some pizza and a water on it. I take a seat at an empty table and pull out my phone. I have a text from my mom checking up on me and a text from an unknown number. I open the text thread to see a picture of my mom carrying a baby out of a burning house. I stare at the picture and see how flawless she looks from just walking out of a burning house. The message under it reads "I wonder how the Council will feel if they find out two vampires took a human and raised it as its own."

The council is made up of Three super old and strong vampires that basically enforce the rules they have put in place for vampires so they don't stand out too much and don't have mobs coming after them.

I don't reply to the message and decide to talk to my parents tonight when they get home. I glance at my food and decide to enjoy the rest of my lunch.

But my mind can't help but wonder who this person is and why are they so interested in my parents and my life now after 17 years of them raising me.
