James Buchanan Barnes. A 35-year-old, hotheaded, mob boss. His family had been involved in the underworld of crime for a long time, and it was only a matter of time until his father passed his title down to him. At the fruitful age of 23, when his father passed, he had the authority to tell people to do whatever he wanted. He'd gotten used to the status by now.

He started to become cocky within his ranks — letting his boys do the dirty work for him, and he reaps the benefits. He slept with a lot of women, spent his money, and lived like a king. None of the girls were doing it for him. They were either too clingy, too stuck up, or rude. So now he was 34, and painfully single. Until he met met Noelia Russell.

She was a sweet, innocent 20 year old; pure as the day she was born. As soon as he spotted her, it was over for any other competitors. His eyes never left her for the rest of the night. He was completely and helplessly in love at first sight. For a while, he pursued with no results, Noelia just brushing him off as a flirt. She didn't think he was serious.

But soon enough, she had fallen. And hard, too. She spent every waking moment thinking about him, he was so sweet to her. Dates around the clock, spoiling her, all before he'd even said how he felt. Most importantly, he won her over with his words. He promised her the world and much more, he made her believe that she was a goddess in his eyes. He'd happily betray the whole world just to see her smile.

A relationship between a violent mob boss and a naive sweetheart didn't seem like such a hard relationship. Except this 'sweetheart' that had James falling over himself in adoration, was the daughter to the very man who made it his life's mission to stop him.

Noelia grew up with only her father, who let himself go once her mother had died. Killed by a mob leader, Noelia's mother left her at only 2. She never knew what it felt like to have a mom, she grew up with the harsh words her father spat. He was okay up until she heard the crack of an opened beer. Then he got hostile, slashing Noelia's self confidence and happiness little by little. She felt those words were true, until James had come around. He made her feel light, weightless, and she was completely adored by him. But the only rule, under no circumstances should this be broken, he vowed to never mix his work and his doll.

A month or two into their relationship, James started using pet names for her, as Noelia was a mouthful. He always got it wrong, and didn't want to disrespect her in any way possible. Names like baby, doll, my girl, and Nellie. She loved them all, and began calling him Bucky, which he only allowed his closest family to call him. As well as other names, like baby, daddy, and honey. Hearing Nellie call him daddy always sent a rush of confidence through him, and she only did it when she wanted something. And 10/10 times, she'd get it. They both knew exactly how to get what they wanted from each other. He would set fire to the world and never let a single flame touch her.
