Rubys POV:

This is going to be interesting.

Just as I thought that Yang nudged me from my right. I looked at her. 'What' I mouthed. She made an heart with her hands, then pointed at the girl on my left. I huffed, rolled my eyes and turned back to the front.

"As some of you might know we are a combat school but there's more to it so I advise you to listen carefully as this is important." Professor Oobleck said. Just, what is wrong with this teacher? He's talking like he wants to win the price for the fastest talker. And I'm sure if something like that existed he's gonna win.

Yang poked me again. I thought about ignoring her but I knew she wouldn't leave me alone so I looked at her. She slipped over a piece of folded paper. I took it and unfolded it. And closed it as soon as I read the words written there: 'Ruby+Weiss=Reiss'. I crumbled it and put it away.

Oh fuck. Because of Yang I didn't catch what Professor Oobleck said. He told us it was important so I raised my hand. "Yes?" He asked as he saw me. "I'm sorry Professor Oobleck..." I started but he cut me off. "It's doctor Oobleck". He said and glared at me.

I swallowed hard. "I..uh... I'm sorry..d-doctor Oobleck but I was a little bit distracted and didn't hear what you told us. C-could you repeat it please?" I tried again. His glare intensified. "Miss Schnee, would you please repeat what I said for Miss..?" "R-rose. Ruby Rose. I'm new here. This isn't an excuse or anything I-i just.. okay I'm just gonna shut up." I mumbled the last part.

He looked a bit surprised then his gaze softened. "So Miss Schnee, would you please repeat what I said for Miss Rose?" I looked down, ashamed. It's always the same, everywhere I go. First day, first impression and I totally fuck up. Great job Ruby.

"Of course." I looked at her. I need to pay attention to not embarrass myself more than I already have. Even if I could easily get lost in those crystal blue eyes. She looked back at me. Our eyes locked for the entire explanation.

"He just told us that for our entire time at this school we will be training in a team of four people which will be assigned tomorrow on the initiation day. We'll share a room with them and take every school trip with them. We have combat classes because with entering this school we chose the huntsmen or huntress course which means, we will have four school years and with graduating we will be granted Huntsmen licenses that'll allow us to use combat in self defense as well as defense of others and in service of the kingdom." On the last words she turned her attention back to the teacher.

"Thank you Miss Schnee. And Miss Rose: I advise you to pay attention now." I quickly nodded. "Alright then, moving on! We will now go to the auditorium for the opening ceremony. Headmaster Ozpin wants to share a few words with you before you will be excused for the day. Now, follow me students." Yang nudged me and wiggled her eyebrows. I rolled my eyes and stood up. Yang took my arm. I could only give Weiss an apologetic look before I was dragged along by Yang.

She stopped just around the first corner and turned to me. "What is it?" I asked her. She grinned. "I totally saw you two staring at each other like the whole world just didn't exist. You can't deny the tension between you two!"

I blushed but shoved Yang aside, going back to the group. "You have one wild fantasy, Sis. There's no 'tension' between us. I'm just a creep staring at a beautiful girl while she has to help me because I wasn't able to pay attention to the teacher." I turned back to her. "Why would that be, huh?" I asked, sarcastically and angry. Before she could answer we catched up to the rest of the class.

Someone laid a hand on my shoulder. I turned back, fully expecting Yang to try and talk to me again but it was Weiss. "Are you okay?" I blinked in surprise. Why...how...what? "Uhm...yeah! I'm fine. How about you?" Her eyes shifted to the ground for a second before jumping back up to lock with mine. "I'm good, thank you for asking. I was wondering if you'd like to walk to the auditorium with me?"

My heart skipped a beat. "Eh?.. I mean, sure! I'd love to!" I smiled, trying to hide my joy and not embarrass myself any further. She seemed relieved. "Okay then, let's go." We followed the other students silently. It's definitely too quite. Should I say something? But what? We reached the stairs to the lower ground since the classrooms are on the second floor.

As we walked down I saw a brown haired guy push Weiss and reacted quickly. I jumped in front of her, grabbing her at the waist with one arm and holding onto the railing with the other, keeping us from falling. "Are you okay?" I asked. She looks up at me her cheeks tinted red. "Yes, thank you." I sighed in relief. Then I looked back to the guy who caused this. He smirked confidently.

"YOU! WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" I shouted, still holding Weiss close to me, afraid he might hurt her. He was taken aback for a second before he and his gang started laughing. "Mr Winchester!" Luckily though doctor Oobleck saw everything and came over, laying a heavy hand on his shoulder. "After the ceremony I'd like to have a word with you!" The boy looked unimpressed. "Sure thing, doctor." He said, clearly being sarcastic.

Doctor Oobleck glared at him before looking worriedly at Weiss, still in my arm and now slightly clinging to me. Actually a quite nice outcome of this...event. "Are you hurt, Miss Schnee?" My snow angel looked at him. "No, Miss Rose caught me in time. My left foot hurts a little because I tripped but otherwise I'm fine." She looked at me.

I smiled at her "No problem. I'd do it again if I had to." Inwardly, I facepalmed on my own lame attempt to flirt with her. But she didn't seem to care as she only said. "Good to know in case I fall down another set of stairs." Is it just me or did she just flirt back?

I noticed the teacher still looking at us. Then I realized the position we were in and pulled Weiss back to her feet, letting go afterwards. "Can you walk?" She tested her footing for a second. "I guess, but it hurts a little. Could you... support me till we get to the auditorium and maybe to the sleep hall afterwards?"

I felt my face heat up. "Uhm, sure. If that's alright with you." She nodded. "Okay then girls. Just be careful. And Miss Schnee: If it still hurts tomorrow morning, please go to the nurse office." "I will." She answered. "And I'll make sure she gets there safely!" I added bravely. Oobleck nodded and sent us off. So I steadied her on our way to the ceremony.

I shouldn't be thanking this Winchester guy for what he did, but I won't complain about it either. Who would have thought I'd hold onto her this close only an hour after I first saw her.

What a coincidence.
