It's been a month since summer break ended. This year I was a second-year at Karasuno High, who stayed in the dorms again like last year. I went through the day like every day: assignments, boring lectures, and such. After my last class, I didn't have anything after school, so I wandered around campus, staring at my phone, unaware of my surroundings. Suddenly, I heard the sound of shouts and whistles, and I found myself at the gym.

I pushed up my glasses, peeked inside, and saw the boys' volleyball team was playing a game against Nekoma High. That's when I remembered that Nekoma's high school boys' volleyball team was staying at the spare dorms on campus for a while. They still had to take classes, so they took some temporary classes at Karasuno, but I'm not sure how that works. I think a couple of the boys stayed in the dorms on my floor. I knew some of the people from Nekoma High since we went to the same middle school, but we weren't really close.

I found myself interested and continued to watch the boys as they played. No one seemed to notice me sneaking in to sit at the nearest seat. One of the guys on Nekoma's team was getting ready to serve the ball. I recognized who he was from middle school. I think his name is Kuroo. The whistle blew, and he served the ball, which made a sound that echoed throughout the gym and through the loud cheers and shouts. The ball soared past the net and across the court. Karasuno's team shouted for the ball. The libero, Noya, called the ball and rushed to receive it. The ball went to Kageyama and he set it to Hinata, who bolted and jumped so high he was practically flying. He spiked the ball past one of the opposing team members-- I think his name is Kenma --and it zoomed straight past him.

The room was full of shock when we witnessed Hinata's speed. The crowd grew silent. I had to adjust my glasses myself to check if I saw that right. I had heard that he was quick, but because of his small figure I didn't think he could be that fast or jump that high. After people got over the shock, the excitement of the game grew larger than it was before. The rest of the game was close, and I only stayed to watch because I had nothing better to do.

After the game, I got up and walked to my dorm. I started my homework and lost consciousness of the time. I ended up falling asleep, but I didn't realize that until I woke up, my glasses half off my face. Now awake, and tired, I changed into my pajamas and started heading to my bed. I stopped myself when I started hearing sounds from the dorm next to me. It sounded like they were coming from... a video game?

I adjusted my glasses and checked my phone to see what time it was. What the heck? The clock read 2 AM. Who plays video games at this time in the morning? I started to open my door but hesitated. Should I even check? Ah, whatever. I walked into the hallway and knocked on the door to the right, next door to mine. The sounds stopped and the door opened a crack. Through the dark, I could barely see the blonde ends of the boy's hair who peeked outside the door. I recognized his hair from today's game and realized the boy was Kenma.

"Kenma?"

I squinted to try and get a clearer look at him.

"Y/N?"

He opened the door a little more and sounded a little tired, but I don't blame him. After all, it is 2 in the morning.

"Oh, you remember me from middle school?"

I was a little surprised, considering we weren't that close.

"Yea, a bit."

There was a small pause.

"What are you doing playing games at this time?"

There was a hint of awkwardness. He scratched the back of his head and glanced at the floor.

"Well, I've been doing this for a while, so I kinda got used to it."

He continued to look at the floor.

"Umm... do you want to come in and maybe... watch, or play if you want?"

"Sure."

I stepped inside and sat on his bed. He had lots of games and cat-themed things-- plushies, hoodies, pillows, even a small black cat. He sat on the floor in front of the TV and resumed his game, his cat curled up on top of his head. As time went on, I started to nod off and fell asleep on Kenma's bed.

The next morning, I woke up to Kenma softly shaking me awake.

"Hey. Y/N. You should... get to your dorm and start getting ready. I think school is starting soon."

He spoke so softly I felt like I was still asleep. After a few seconds, I started to gain consciousness.

"Hmm? Oh, right," I replied sleepily.

I reached out for my glasses, which I'm guessing Kenma put on the small table next to the bed. I got up, put on my glasses, and started walking tiredly to the door. I opened it a bit then stopped and turned towards Kenma.

"Oh, hey Kenma."

He turned and looked towards me.

"Yea?"

I hesitated a little. "Is it... is it okay if I come over again tonight? I kinda want to try one of the games, if you don't mind."

He looked at me, with some shock at first, then he replied, "Yea, sure. We can try one of the shooting or one-on-one games."

I smiled and responded, "Yea, that sounds good. I'll see you later, Kenma." We waved at each other as I walked out the door. "See you later, Y/N."

We became close friends and continued to play games together, hanging out together more, walking to class, and having lunch. Most of the time, we went to each other's dorms at 2 AM and played video games. Occasionally, Kenma bought me a new game. Usually, it was a game that he had so that I could catch up to the level he was at. I ended up having almost as many games he had after just two weeks.

Some time had passed and Nekoma's and Karasuno's boys' volleyball teams started practicing together. I started going with Kenma to watch, picking up some volleyball tips along the way and helping out here and there. One day after practice, I was helping Yachi take down the net when Karasuno's coach approached me.

"Hey, your name's Y/N, right?"

"Um, yes, coach."

"Oh, great! Since you're helping out so much, what do you think about becoming our team manager? Yachi really appreciates your help."

"Oh. Well... I don't have much experience with being a manager."

Yachi came over to gather the net so she could put it away.

"Please, Y/N? Our other team manager, Kiyoko, can't help out with the team right now, and it's not easy managing the team by myself."

"Alright, I accept your offer, coach."

"Great, you can start next practice. Yachi will show you the ropes."

I was introduced to everyone from both of the teams. Kenma even gave me the nickname "Pudding", because he said I have a sweet personality, and I gave him the nickname "Kenken" because I think it sounded cute. All the members of each team were all fun to be around except for Tsukishima because of his salty personality. As time went on, I got closer with both teams, but I considered Kenken, Kuroo, and Tsukishima to be closer to me than the rest. It soon got to the point where teasing Tsukishima and Kuroo became a daily basis.
