XV.

Katy's pov.

Katy and Niall had been living together for two months and they couldn't be happier. The two of them just seemed to click together so easily.

In two days it would be Katy's birthday, and she knows Niall has something planned. She heard the conversations he had with Harry at 2AM about what exactly he should do for "the love of his life's first birthday with him".  Katy was eager to see what Niall had planned. He was such a romantic and so sweet. Katy would be fine with just staying in and watching Hamilton or something for her birthday, but if Niall had big plans, she wouldn't object.

On the day of August 23rd, Katy woke up to several happy birthday texts, one from all of Niall's friends, her family, and her gorgeous and wonderful Bestie, Annabell, who she's known since first grade.

She also noticed that the bed was empty and the smell of waffles wafted through the house. She could also hear the faint sound of Willow by Taylor Swift playing, with Niall's angelic voice singing along.

Katy stumbled out of bed, almost tripping as she did so. She walked into the kitchen, and Niall smiled when he saw her. He separated his body from the counter he was leaning against, and wrapped his arms around Katy's waist. "Happy Birthday," Niall whispered in her ear.

"Thanks," Katy placed a chaste kiss to his lips as August came on. Niall pulled Katy into the middle of the kitchen, and started swaying to the music with Katy in his arms.

"I can see us lost in the memory, August slipped away like a moment in time. 'Cause you were never mine." Katy hoped that the lyrics of the song never became true for her. She didn't want her love with Niall to just be a fling that he would forget about, and move in from. She wanted this to last forever. And hopefully it would.

"I made you breakfast," Niall said when the song was over.

"Yeah, that's what woke me up."

They are in comfortable silence while Taylor Swift sounded through the flat, Niall or Katy occasionally picking up on random lyrics and singing along.

Trees and other cars whipped past in a blur through the view of the passenger side window of Niall's Nissan Sentra.

"Dance around the living room. Lose me in the sight of you. I've seen the red, I've seen the blue. Take all of me." The words danced through Katy's mind. She focused on the song playing in car, and not the impending questions in her mind about where Niall was taking her, or why he couldn't just tell where they were going. It was obvious the man liked surprises. But just being in the car with Niall as 5SOS played in the background was enough to feel content.

The car abruptly stopped at a building resembling a fairly large house. The sign in front of it read 'Painted Lady B&B' . The B&B was painted a light blue color, and had a tan roof. The front porch was painted white. 

Niall got out of the car opened Katy's door for her. "What are we doing here?" Katy inquired, taking Niall's hand in hers.

"It's part of your birthday present."

They wordlessly walked into the B&B and Niall checked them into their room. The room they were led into had a small dresser with an old tv on it, a large king-sized bed with pink flowers covering the bedspread. The wallpaper was adorned with similar pink flowers.

"This is... cute," Katy acknowledged. Harry definitely suggested this place to Niall.

"Not quite what I imagined, but I like it," Niall added.

They made out on the bed and then ordered room service an hour later. Just as Katy had finished her vegetable beef soup, Niall picked up his guitar that he brought.

"Are you ready for your big present?" Niall asked softly.

Katy nodded. She knew exactly what this was.

Niall started strumming the guitar, before his voice sounded in the room. "I have seen, seen it all in paper dreams. Watched it all full on the screen. But never understood. I have heard, heard you speak a million words. Now you're talking to me first. Never thought you would.

"Oh, my, my, you just took my by surprise. And I can't believe my eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind. Oh no, my, you are too good to be all mine. Now I'm looking in your eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind.

"I was young, my heart was always on the run. But you made lovin' fun. I never knew it could be. I see you from a different point of view. Feel it's too good to be true. I found my missing piece.

"Oh, my, my, you just took me by surprise. And I can't believe my eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind. Oh no, my, you are too good to be all mine. Now I'm looking in your eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind. Oh no.

"Oh, my, my. When I look into your eyes. It's a sight I can't describe. Oh, I must be seeing blind.

"Oh, my, my, you just took me by surprise. And I can't believe my eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind. Oh no, my, you are too good to be all mine. Now, I'm looking in your eyes. Oh, I must be seeing blind. Oh, I must be seeing blind." Niall finished.

Katy was in tears. This was the sweetest and probably the best thing anyone has ever done for her. This was the second song Niall had written for her that she knows of. Who knows how many more he's written.

The words filled Katy's mind, alone with their meaning. Her heart fills with so much love, she thinks it might burst.

"Did you like it?" Niall looks up from his guitar with hopeful eyes.

Katy just nods and tackles Niall in a hug.
