____Dang, I still can't believe Lilith is married to my beast keeping professor," Luz hummed as she and Amity headed down the now all too familiar path to Lilith's house.
"Seriously?" Amity remarked with a snort, raising an eyebrow at the comment. "You've literally known for over a year now," the auburn haired witch chuckled, "not to mention the fact that they are always together, whether at Hexside, my house, or your house for that matter."
"Yeah but like, still!" Luz whined, waving her arms in front of her as if ushering towards a point. "It's Lilith... and Terra... they are like, complete opposites!"
"True, but from my experience, the best couples are," Amity smirked as she wrapped an arm around Luz's waist. "Besides, they grew up together and honestly have a lot more in common than you'd think."
"Oh, really?" Luz hummed. "From what I've heard, it sounds like Eda's the one who has more in common with Terra. Apparently they were in detention together like, all the time!"
Shaking her head at the twinkle in her girlfriend's eye, Amity sighed through a smile as Luz launched into a longwinded rant, recapping some of the fantastic misadventures Terra and Eda had reportedly shared together. Letting her mind drift as Luz spoke, Amity stared quietly at the clouds as they walked, reflecting on the events that had led to her current place in life - events she considered a welcomed light in the darkness that had once plagued her.
It had been roughly two years since Amity's liberation from her adoptive parents - salvation following on the heels of years of physical, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of the Alador and Odalia Blight, a lifetime of vile acts yielding to a demise fit for their crimes and ultimately seeing the girl's freedom. Their fall initially providing the girl a breath of fresh air against a slew of complex emotions, Amity found her relief soon turn to apprehension, her once clear future, distorted and uncertain.
Unlike her siblings, at the end of the academic year, Amity would still be a minor. As such, while her siblings were free to begin life on their own and chase their dreams, legally, Amity still required the supervision of an adult. Recalling a feeling of dread wash over her at the though, Amity sighed, resigned to the fact that she'd more likely than not find herself once again, under the care of the Ministry of Child Services, ignored and uncared for albeit to a lesser degree than subsequent to her adoption by the Blights.
Unwilling to see their sister taken from them, however, Edric and Emira begged relentlessly for Amity to stay with them. Regardless of their parents attempts to turn them against Amity, Edric and Emira loved the girl more than words could describe. Adopted or not, she was their little sister and they planned to care, protect, and annoy her to the ends of the earth. As such, putting their plans of a college life off was something they were more than willing to do if it meant keeping Amity safe. Despite their combined efforts, however, Amity could not bring herself to accept her siblings offer, her heart clenching at the thought of them putting their lives on hold for her when they too had already lost so much.
Having been staying with a close family friend shortly proceeding and since their parent's death, Amity resigned herself to enjoying her last few months in the now familiar space, her make-shift family consisting of her siblings, her temporary guardian, and her guardian's partner providing a sense of home she had never experienced before. She felt safe and supported in the space with the adults of the house seemingly invested in her healing, growth, and wellbeing. They seemed to truly care for her and value her presence with no strings attached - a phenomenon unfamiliar to yet welcomed by the girl. Though initially overwhelming and somewhat confusing, eventually Amity came understand what she was experiencing to be love. Despite having not experienced the emotion in a familial sense before, the feeling soon become one she desperately hoped to keep.
