Chapter Twenty Nine
Two Months Later
AJ sat in his father’s chair at his desk and waited for the phone to ring, he was waiting on a call from the Alpha at Northern Howl pack. They had gotten word out to all packs about the problem they had with the hunters and instructed all packs on how they can identify a hunter’s scent. His father had been working around the clock without any rest so AJ offered to take over for a while.
AJ sighed feeling a little impatient his eyes darted to the silver picture frame that was sitting on his father’s desk, more importantly the picture that was inside the frame. Picking up the silver photo frame, he stared at the photo of Cole and himself that had been taken during the summer, before all their lives went to hell. Before their mates had shown up and changed their lives forever.
They had gone to the waterfall with their friends after partying hard the night before. Cole’s smiling face was staring back at him through the picture. AJ rubbed his thumb over Cole’s face. He couldn’t help the pang of sadness that came every time he looked at that picture of his brother.
This picture captured a time before everything bad had happened. They were happy and loving their life the way it was. Before the hunter’s had shown up.
Every night he wakes up from the nightmares he has of that day. When he watched the hunter shoot his brother, how AJ reached the hunter too late and the shot had already been fired at Cole. His wolf had taken full control of him and he killed the hunter before he even had time to realise that AJ was there.
His wolf had looked over and noticed Faith standing there, with her eyes wide staring at the dead hunter on the ground. AJ’s wolf growled at her and took a step towards her. Faiths attention moved from the hunter to AJ’s wolf.
“I..I..I” Was all that Faith could say. AJ stalked towards her, he smelt the fear leaking from her. He may have thought she was there by force and that she had nothing to do with what had happen to Cole if her scent didn’t smell like the hunters did. AJ wolf growled at her in anger before he pounced on her wrapping his jaw around her throat.
A scream had escaped Faiths mouth before the pressure AJ’s wolfs jaw had on her throat cut it off. He tightened his jaw enjoying the chocking sound she was making. He released her as soon as he was sure she was dead
Without giving her a second glance AJ was instantly by his brother’s side. There was too much blood, it was pouring out of the gunshot wound that was in his chest. He regained control of his wolf and changed back into his form.
“Cole” He shouted placing his hand over the wound trying to stop the bleeding. But it didn’t matter where he placed his hand the blood continued to flow. “Oh god” He said letting out a panicked sob.
“Dad!” AJ said through the mind link. He knew his father was close by they had all been out hunting more of the hunters that were hiding in the woods. “Cole’s been shot. He needs help”
“Where?” His father replied through the mind link.
“Waterfall” Was all AJ could say.
He looked down at his unconscious brother and let out another sob “Cole oh god Cole don’t die please don’t die, help is coming, just hold on. Please brother, hold on for me.” By this time AJ’s hands were completely covered in Cole’s blood. AJ squeezed his eyes closed and prayed his brother would make it through this.
It didn’t take long for half the pack to arrive. His mother was screaming at the sight of her youngest son who was laying there unconscious on the ground covered in his own blood.
