Jesinta's POV

“Jesinta!” Harry calls out from behind me while I’m on my way to class.

“What Harry?” I turn exasperated.

“Where were you last night? I waited up in the common room all night.”

“Well it’s none of your business is it Harry?” I ask rhetorically.

“Jesinta, I know I hurt you. But I don’t think you realise what was actually going on. I didn’t explain myself very well.”

“I think I understand what happened perfectly. In fact I know what happened, I saw it remember?”

“But Jesinta…”

I cut his words short, “Harry, why does it even matter? We were literally together for like a week. That’s not long at all. It’s ridiculously short actually.”

“Officially it was a week yeah, but the whole lead up to it, you can’t tell me you didn’t feel what I felt when we were together.” He says.

“Well apparently you felt like being with someone else, actually yeah I guess I felt that too.” I snap.

“What?”

“Yeah, you think you’re so special Harry? Well I was constantly thinking about being with someone else while we were dating!” I let slip.

“Who?”

“Anyone but you!” I yell and storm off to class.

Urgh, well that didn’t exactly go how I thought it would, I just said those things to hurt him. Although it was true, I was thinking about Draco while I was with Harry. And Before I was with Harry. And even now.

I couldn’t tell anyone but I dreamt about Draco last night. It was simple, just me and him on my favourite beach back home. We were sitting on the sand watching the oceans waves roll in and out. It was peaceful and comfortable. I couldn’t have picked anyone else I would have rather been there with.

But I have to put all that out of my head for now, it was time for class.

The next few weeks pass quite slowly, all I wanted to do was spend time with Draco. But there was never an appropriate moment. I spent most of my time with either Hermione or Luna. I’d still sit with the whole group for meals, just made sure I wasn’t next to or across from Harry. I was civil though, he was too. He’s realised there’s nothing he can do or say to get me back.

It seems like we were both kind of over what happened. Even though Ginny never got back with Dean, her and Harry still weren’t an item. I have a feeling Ron was standing in the way of that, which I found quite amusing.

The rainy weather turned to snow as Christmas approaches. With this brought an abundance of decorations throughout the castle. It was quite the sight, but I didn’t really feel in the Christmas spirit. My family never really celebrated it anyway.

I walk through the Great Hall and join my fellow Gryffindors at our table and turn my attention to Headmaster Dumbledore.

“Good evening students.” He greeted us calmly. “As you are aware Christmas break is just around the corner. Any students wishing to stay here at Hogwarts over the holidays are more than welcome, please just put your names on the parchment provided here at the front of the Great Hall before the end of the week.” He takes a moment to smile at us all. “Now I believe Professor McGonagall would like to say a few words.”

Dumbledore takes a seat as McGonagall makes her way to the centre front of the hall.

“I have some exciting news for you all, after the holidays Hogwarts will be holding an interschool Ball. Much like the Yule Ball a few years ago, students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons will be visiting us to celebrate wizard school unity.” By this point half of the students were entranced by her every word with excited looks on their faces. The other half however seems to slump down disappointed by the news they would have to dance. “This Ball will take place the first weekend back from Christmas break. This is of course is a formal event, house heads will be holding dance lessons the week leading up to the ball. I expect you all to be on your best behaviour and to represent our school with pride.”

For the rest of dinner I hear the surrounding girls around me gush over what they were going to wear and who they wanted to be their date.

I’m one of the first to put my name down on the holiday stay list and leave the Great Hall earlier than most other students to make my way back to Gryffindor Tower. Only to be surprised when I’m dramatically pulled aside to a dark corridor.

“Draco!” I exclaim.

“Come home with me for the holidays.” He said like it wasn’t even a question.

“What?”

“I saw you sign up to stay here for Christmas, come home with me instead.”

“I can’t do that Draco.”

“Why not? You’re more than welcome, I know my mother won’t mind. She won’t really be around much anyway. You’d be doing me a favour actually, I’ll go out of my mind if I have no company around the manor.”

“Are you sure it’s OK?” I consider it.

“Of course.” He says, his eyes never wavering from mine.

“I’ll think about.” I say.

“Alright then, I’ll let my mother know that you’re coming then.”

“Hey I didn’t say ‘yes’.”

“Close enough.” He gives me a cheeky grin as he leaves.
