Time jump to end of 2nd semester of that year...
Hiccup
"Thanks so much for helping me Merida, I promise that this'll be the last session," I told Merida.
"Don't worry... It's actually been quite interesting," she responded, locking her phone.
"Really?" I could've sworn my entire face lit up.
"Yeah, I never realised how clueless you were!" she grinned. "Hey, I'm joking!" she punched my arm playfully when my face started to heat up. "So... what do you want to do this session?" she questioned.
"How you actually ask them out," I answered almost immediately. I'd been waiting for this moment for months. I'd followed every instruction that she's given me - I've waited for her after lessons, I've hung out with her instead of Jack, I even bought her lunch once! The tension was killing me, and I wouldn't be surprised if she knew what I wasn't doing.
"Um... Okay. So first of all, you need to get them alone." Merida started.
"Okay," I smiled. No one else was in the library (which made sense - finals were over, and only a few projects were left to finish).
"Then you need to look into their eyes. That tells them that you are sure and confident, but don't look too bold, otherwise they'll think you're not really serious!"
I stared into her incredible turquoise eyes - I didn't think that looking too bold would be a problem; I'm not exactly intimidating.
"Then you ask them on a date, to be your girlfriend, whatever. Maybe pay them a few compliments if you're really unsure about what they're going to say-"
"You're beautiful." I sighed suddenly, before I even realised what I was saying, swiftly taking her hands in mine.
"Wait- what?!" Merida gasped. She pulled her hands away as if mine were red hot, and started to stand up.
"I mean it! You're funny, smart, talented, athletic, and brave, and I promise that I would be good to you. Will you be my girlfriend?" I blurted before she got out of her chair.
A deafening silence filled the library as the words took effect on her. I was doing my best to keep eye contact, but it seemed impossible, because if I looked into her eyes I could see her exact reaction to my question. Shock, confusion... Then anger.
"That's why you wanted dating advice?! That's why you asked me instead of Punzie or Elsa?! I can't believe you! We've been friends for ages and now you want to sacrifice that?!" she yelled, outraged.
"I don't want to sacrifice it, I just want us to be more than friends, that doesn't mean we have to stop being friends! I meant it when I said all of that-" I desperately tried to calm her.
"I was wondering why you'd been acting so weird lately! So you've been following all of my advice?!"
"Yes! I have! I don't see why you're so annoyed, I did everything-"
"No, I also told you to never lie to them, especially once they liked you-"
"Wait, you like me? Then why are you so annoyed?!"
"Well... That's not the point! I can't believe that you tricked me! I feel like such an idiot! And that, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, is why I will NOT be your girlfriend!" Merida shouted.
I'd never felt so awkward in my life, and there wasn't even anyone here. Furious, I grumbled back.
