Mateo let out a yawn, stretching out his arms as he paced around the cell. He wanted to get his blood pumping, seeing how he was just sitting in an interrogation room for a grueling 4 hours of just utter silence.
He was told that his phone had been blowing up with calls and texts from Harrison and his uncle along with a few of his co-workers/friends. It seemed everyone was trying to locate him. Since this place was under the government, He figured he wasn't going to get out anytime soon nor have contact with any one on the outside.
He at least got to take a shower, or at least washed his face and hair with the hand soap and sink. He was blessed with clear and strong skin, so he could've washed his face with dirt and it still would've stayed clear. Lucky bastard.
Letting his mind wander to Clarise, it seems like she hasn't been answering the questions like he thought she would. Seeing how the questioning got way more intense with him, Kevin even would slam the table violently. From what Mateo could tell, Kevin was incredibly shaken up by whatever Clarise had said to him. Kevin even had to step out at some points and be replaced with some new man he didn't recognize.
He found himself doing strength exercises, just letting his mind wander as he did so. It helped him think, physical activity. Let his body be productive while his brain goes blank.
"So the girl was right," A voice came through the intercom, Mateo looking up to see Jennifer standing on the other side of the glass, her hand holding down the intercom button, "Conrad's brother has been found."
"Congrats." Mateo stood up, clapping and brushing off his hands to get the dirt off. He walked over to the sink, rising off his hands then drinking right from the tap, wiping his mouth sloppily on the back of his hand. "I'm sure she also told you everything you guys wanted to know right? That's why I'm still kept here."
He obviously was being sarcastic which pissed Jennifer off more. She was already angry with herself for messing it up with Clarise's capture and shooting Ethan. She didn't expect for Mateo to match Conrad either, so he also pissed her off too.
"We need to know where the rest of the employees are from the facility you guys escaped."
"Yeah, I know," Mateo was asked that so many times in so many ways in the span of a few hours. He didn't know anything about them, other than where he was suppose to meet up with them, but he was not going to blab to these people unless Clarise does.
Seeing how she didn't answer their questions either, which was incredibly different than how she behaved at the facility. It was a bit alarming. Dr. Kadea advised Mateo to report back any unusual behavior, but given the events that have unfolded Mateo was unsure what to do with this information.
He weighed his odds now, completely ignoring Jennifer as he flopped onto his cot, staring at the ceiling.
This was just a job, why is he so attached to Clarise? They barely knew each other, or at least he barely knew her. All he knew about her was written on her files, but they were so thorough that it was like he knew her all his life. He blindly followed what she said and it caused him to get him beaten up and thrown in a cell. At least he got hot meals and access to a bathroom. More importantly he was still alive.
But she had no idea about the real world, and that's a bit of her charm. He watched her struggle to even open a simple container, and she has been running around bare foot for the past couple of days. He also seemed to be the only one to communicate with her pretty well.
Of course he had no idea how she was behaving with Conrad. She was quickly adapting confidence and a new grasp on her powers.
Little did they both know she was down a path she could never return from.
Clarise rubbed her temples, just laying on her back. Her head felt sore, like it was getting a workout. It was like it at the facility, though the facility her whole body would also be sore. They thought if they pushed her physical body to its limits it would push her abilities. It worked with the other Projects, why would she be different?
Conrad was long gone, off to do whatever he does but more importantly got in contact with his brother. He made sure to tell their little sister too that their sibling had been found, and the two shared a moment of happiness before everyone returned to work.
"Hey," it was Frost again, peeking through the little hole. She didn't expect Clarise to suddenly turn to her, making direct eye contact, "Whoa! You startled me."
What do you want?
She wants to learn about your powers out of curiosity. I need to make friends with her now, it will benefit me greatly.
"So what can you do that The Bear keeps visiting you and you come out of it in one piece?" Frost propped her elbows on her pillow, resting her chin on her hands, leaning forward so she could look right at Clarise. "You must have a hell of a power."
I can foretell the future.
"Huh?" She squinted, "I can't read lips."
Clarise sighed, flipping onto her stomach and putting her mouth near the tiny hole. The wall was about 2 inches thick so communication could be difficult, but Frost pressed her ear against her self-made hole, ignoring the frost growing from the contact of her ear on the metal wall.
"I know the future."
"Wow," Frost laughed, almost didn't believe her until she considered why Clarise was put here.
