Dear Lizzy
I remember the very moment I walked into the swimming pool to watch your very first swimming lesson. You seemed like a natural in my eyes. Clearly, you were the worst in your class, yet you still kept on smiling and giggling. Make sure to keep those little moments stored somewhere in your mind or a photo album for when you have children.
Love Mum
~~~~~~
Exactly a week passed by. Last night Candice was moved to her new room, and today was going to be the special day I meet my father's new roommate. I was simply excited about seeing someone new. Since my dad couldn't be excited, I had to be excited for him, you know? Plus I heard the roommate was around my age. Maybe she would like the same things I did? Who knows? At the very least, I hope we would get along. Especially since I'm not her actual roommate, I hope I don't bug her or anything. I sigh placing my shoes on in the entrance smiling.
Around a week after my dad fell into a coma, I bought an apartment that was a 5-minute walk from the hospital. Staying close to the hospital was essential for me since I planned on visiting my dad almost every day. The walk to the hospital was always a calm one. At least for the people who took the path I did. It was true that the hospital was placed near a road, but it was also placed in a way that there was a forest located right behind it. The forest had a connected path to the hospital making the walk much more calming and enjoyable to go through than listening to cars honk first thing in the morning.
The entrance from the back was never that busy either and had a Starbucks planted to the right of the elevator. It was very convenient especially for me who has an extreme sweet tooth for coffee. It was small and only had 4 or 5 places to sit but the Coffee here tasted better than any other Starbucks location. The hospital workers really seemed to love what they do, was the only explanation I could come up with for the outstanding coffee. I quickly placed my order for an Iced Caramel Macchiato and silently went up to my father's room. I made a quick note to ask the receptionist at the desk for Candice's new room number so I can visit her sometimes. As much as she worried about me being with a new hospital mate, I'm pretty sure she wanted to stay with my company as well. She sometimes seemed like she had the mind of a moody teenager, but I guess that's what made her soo lovable.
The corridor to my father's room was always busy. Always had something going on. Whether it be the nurses bustling around to get their work done or a new patient being transported in, it was always busy. I guess I liked it that way too, the nurses here were also extremely laid back as well as the doctors, making them easy to talk to. The door to my father's room came into my view and my heart starts to race with excitement ready to see this new roomie.
The nurse standing to the side of my father's room door smiled.
"Are you excited to see the new In-mate?" She asks before I could enter the room.
"very much" I smile back at her reaching out for the doorknob, the nurse didn't ask any more questions and walked away with a tray of syringes leaving me to enter the room. I quietly walk in afraid she might be sleeping. I first spot my father still in the same position as always and to my disappointment the new in-mate had their curtain drawn, preventing me from seeing much less talking to them. The Nurse did say she had a sad disease, maybe she didn't like to interact? I sighed walking over to the chair next to my father's bed quietly greeting him, in case the other in the room was sleeping.
"Good morning, Father," I smile holding on to my father's hand like I always did tracing shapes into the palm of his hand. "I had a very nice dream today," I continued with my quiet speech. "Mum you and I were all walking in that sunflower field we always used to go to, Mum made so many sandwiches, and you somehow ate them all" I let out a light laugh continuing to trace random objects onto his hand. "I ran around so much and fell so much I got grass stains on my pants and you got mad because we just bought the clothes"
Reminiscing the dream stamped what felt like, a permanent smile on my face. I gently placed my head on my father's bed, facing him. I loved him. So much, if I lost him, I really don't think I'd be able to continue living without him. Losing a family member really doesn't hit until you actually lose them. It feels like you can only think about that person. It feels like your shackled to them and when you finally admit to yourself that they're gone, you lone for their touch, to hear their voice for one last time. You would kill just at the slight chance to see them again. That is what love does to you. It leaves you vulnerable, and when they leave, all you can think about is seeing them again.
I nurse, I recently familiarized myself with was Rebecca. She usually took care of dad but started taking care of Candice later on. After Candice left, I only had to assume she would do the same with the new in-mate, and when she walked in to pull the curtain to the new-inmates area she only proved my point.
I watched her carefully as she pulled open the curtain. For some reason it felt extremely suspenseful, I honestly had no idea why I was making such a big deal. Maybe was it because I really wanted i friend to talk to? I honestly had no clue.
Rebecca pulled the curtain to reveal a Raven-Haired colour boy. Boy? This whole time I thought it was going to be fair. Just to put it out there, nobody ever told me it was going to be a girl, but, I just assumed-
this reminded me of a lesson my mum once taught me. Before you assume something, try this crazy method called 'asking'. I never really paid attention to my mum's lessons, yet nowadays they seem to be more helpful than ever.
The Boy definitely looked around my age with a normal muscle build. He looked pretty fit for his age, but then again most boys our age made it their life's mission to become John fucking Cena. He had pretty pale skin compared to mine and his hair had this raven black colour that was pretty flat and had bangs that almost completely covered his ocean blue eyes. He seemed almost too breathtaking to be put into a hospital. His eye had this almond shape and his ethnicity was nearly impossible to guess.
"How are you doing Blake?" Rebecca asked but the raven-haired boy remained silent. She didn't seem fazed or bothered by him ignoring her, making it seem that this was the norm for this so-called Blake. She stuck a needle into his arm without warning knowing that he wouldn't respond even if she asked for permission. Taking out a sample of his blood, she places the syringe in the tray turning to me.
"How have you been Lizzy?" I smile actually giving her a response.
"Good, and you?" she gently returns the smile
"tired, but still going on," she says letting out a small yawn in an indication of her weak shape. I give her a sympathetic smile.
"Make sure to rest"
we exchange goodbyes as she heads out the door leaving Blakes's curtains open. Blake remained silent probably praying I wouldn't try to talk to him, and so I didn't. I remained quiet for the time in the room tracing shapes into my father's palm. Even though I could feel the stares of the raven-haired boy burning my back, I remained quiet, knowing that being curious doesn't necessarily mean you want to start a conversation. I knew that fairly well.
