Aditi looked at herself in the mirror. The dress was an amazing fit. Karan had arranged to have a virtual dinner date with her. She wished he was there in person. He had totally made her birthday a memorable one. She was sure he had spent almost two to three months of salary equivalent on the expensive gifts. From her undergarments, to the dress, to the bracelet she wore on her wrist everything was his gift. She tied up her hair in a bun, that hairstyle went well with the dress. She wore the earrings he had gifted her, the pair she found taped under the bed.
She realized that he had it all planned from a very long time. She was moved with his thoughtfulness. She stared at her reflection in the mirror. She was the definition of ordinary. She didn't have striking features, silky hair, or diva like figure. Yet, everytime he looked at her like she was the most beautiful sight ever.
She wondered what he actually liked about her. She was lazy, anti-social, spoil-sport kind while he was the exact opposite. He was charming, people pleaser, good-sport kind.
She had known the minute she had first seen him that he was out of her league. When he said yes to her, she knew she had just got lucky. But now, she felt she was the luckiest.
She felt beautiful, because of the way he treated her. She felt maybe she wasn't as non desirable as she thought she was. She smiled through her tears that glimmered in her eyes, praying that this would never change. She loved the way he loved her.
She heard her phone beep and quickly picked it up, unlocking the screen.
Karan :
Adu, how long? I am hungry!
She smiled, feeling a little guilty for keeping him waiting. She quickly headed out and set up her laptop. She brought out one glass plate from the set of four she had. She carried the microwave bowls, one filled with fried rice and other with manchurian. He had ordered her favorite baby corn manchurian. She looked at the bottle of wine, skeptically.
Come on, Aditi. It's your birthday. You're an adult, married even. Drinking wine shouldn't be a big deal.
After pondering a little, she brought out the wine glasses that she usually used for soft drinks. After setting up the table she called him. "Hello?"
"Finally! I thought you slept."
"Lol, my table is set." She replied.
"Excellent! I am ready too. Let's connect."
Aditi ended the call and sent him a video call invitation using her laptop which he instantly picked up. Her lips parted and eyes twinkled at the sight of her husband well groomed, wearing a white shirt and black trousers. He took a bow and then sent a flying kiss.
She smiled, this man was the definition of charming.
"Aditi, you look gorgeous. But I would like to have a full look."
At that instant, Aditi realized she hadn't worn any slippers while he wore shoes. "Give me a minute!" She said, excitedly slipping away to put on her black heels. She walked nervously towards her laptop. She noticed how his jaw dropped and blushed.
"Screw my luck. Why am I not there?"
She laughed at that. He probably picked up his laptop and turned it around as she saw how he had set up the dining table, switched off the tube lights and left on the golden lamps on.
"Isn't it the perfect dinner date?" He asked coming forward and she realized he was probably setting the laptop back in place.
"Can I sit?" Aditi asked.
