SIRIUS BLACK LOVES his friends with the entirety of his gigantic heart so if he was to come across someone acting suspicious in the middle of the night with their finger hovering over a book which explicitly explains the traits of a werewolf then he's going to want to to know what said person is doing.
Unfortunately, Sirius Black is the worst spy to have ever graced Hogwarts and his snooping only helps to dig himself a deeper grave as he finds out a lot more than he bargained for. It's a good job he knows how to keep a secret, otherwise it's likely that Lenora Claret would've attempted to rip his heart out, or something.
