chapter 11
"NOTHING?" JAMES ASKED as he lay on Sirius' bed, crossing one of his legs over the other, "You were out all night and you got nothing?"
"I was busy," Sirius squeaked, looking over at Remus who had his hand in his bag of sweets. "I don't know what you expected me to find out?"
James hummed. It's been nearly a week or two short of two months since they first suspected Lenora Claret of being up to something and they have nothing. It seems that Lenora had absolutely nothing to hide but the two boys, as stubborn as each other, won't let that stop them.
"I really do think you should leave her alone now," Remus said, his mouth full of sweets. "It's obvious she isn't doing anything, you're both just bored." Remus had repeated many times over the months that the two boys were bored and that's why they decided to pick on Lenora, they both denied it.
James and Sirius looked at Remus and shrugged. The lanky, curly-haired werewolf dug a lollipop out of Sirius' bag of sweets, "Is this a blood lollipop?" He asked, pulling the plastic wrapper off with more ease than Sirius had the night before.
"Don't eat that Rem," Sirius laughed, sitting down on Remus' bed, he went to snatch it from his hands but Lupin lay back so he couldn't reach. "It tastes disgusting," Sirius told him.
"You ate one?" Peter Pettigrew asked, he was on James' bed. Sirius nodded, pulling a face. "Is it actual blood or does it just taste like it?" Peter asked, standing up to get a look at it.
"It tastes like it." Sirius said, "I think." He added.
Remus smelt it, the boys laughed at him.
"It smells like it as well." He told them, his face looked the same as Sirius'. "It smells horrid."
Sirius snatched it off him, "I can't smell it."
"Good," Remus laughed, letting him keep the sweet. "You don't want to.".
"Is it because of your problem, is that why you can smell it?" Peter asked.
Remus nodded. "I assume so."
"Stop talking about blood!" James laughed, covering his tan face with his large hands. "I think we should give it another week." He looked at Sirius, Remus rolled his eyes.
"For what?" Sirius asked, resting his head on Remus' ankles. He tried to kick him off but Sirius didn't budge. "My birthday is in two days," he said.
"I know," James kicked his school shoes off of his feet, it was a Friday and their lessons had finished for the week. Sirius' birthday is on Sunday and they've decided they can sacrifice a Monday to celebrate on the actual day, "I'm talking about Lenora, if she doesn't do anything by next Friday then we'll give up," James glanced at Remus who looked approving, glad that they were finally going to leave Lenora alone.
Sirius didn't look convinced, but he nodded.
The Marauders first found out that Remus Lupin was a werewolf in their second year and they're pretty sure he still hasn't forgiven them for asking about it. If he was to be honest he would've liked to pretend that they didn't know anything about him at all. It made everything worse when he realised that they had been snooping and spying on him behind his back.
"Are you a werewolf?" James asked bluntly as soon as Remus sat down on his bed the day after a full moon. Thirteen year old Remus shook his head. No. But the startled look on his freckled face told the boys otherwise. James had finally put the pieces together after a compulsory midnight astronomy lesson where they had to chart the moon, when it came to the full moon he soon noticed that Remus was absent.
