chapter three
WHEN SIRIUS BLACK moved into his best friend's house over a year ago, he became obsessed with watching detective shows on the television with Fleamont Potter. The Potters had only got the television the year before, Remus Lupin had to teach them how to use it, being the only one of the Marauders with a muggle parent. James found the tv shows boring, but Sirius and Mr Potter would sit every weekend and try to figure out the ending before the characters in the show did. Granted they were never right as the shows like to have last minute plot twists that no one watching could guess - but it was still fun and they still continue to do it during the summer or Christmas holidays; whenever Sirius is at the Potters.
Watching the television shows every weekend turned out to be quite useful, despite James constantly telling Sirius that they were stupid (James was just being pathetic because he had no idea how the muggle police nor the television worked). The two boys were sitting crossed legged on the dorm floor, a roll of parchment spread out in front of them as they tried to brainstorm their ideas about Lenora Claret.
Remus and Peter couldn't believe that they had actually gone through with their messed up plan to stalk the poor sixteen year old girl. It had already been a week since Sirius caught her in the library and so far the two boys had absolutely nothing.
They both assumed that she was avoiding Sirius, he tried to find her in the Great Hall but he couldn't spot her, but then again he wasn't sure one hundred percent sure what house she was in and Remus refused to tell him.
"Pete and I are going to dinner," Remus announced, frowning at the two boys who were sitting on the floor, both simply intrigued by the lack of ideas they had. "Are you coming?" Remus asked.
"Of course we're coming," Sirius stated, standing up from the floor, stretching his arm out so James could stand up as well. "We're not going to let ourselves starve."
The four Marauders all sat together at the Gryffindor table, surrounded by the other sixth years wearing scarlet and gold ties. Sirius was sitting in between Lily Evans and Marlene Mckinnon, both of them eager to eat their dinner - it was as if they hadn't eaten in months. James sat opposite Sirius and next to Peter, who was red faced as Mary Macdonald watched him eat four sausages in a minute. A mystery as to whether she was impressed or disgusted.
Sirius glanced around the Great Hall, looking for the mousy haired girl who he had run into almost a week ago. After scouring the hall, he eventually caught sight of her at the Hufflepuff table talking to Dorcas Meadowes. Sirius didn't think Lenora was in Hufflepuff, he would've assumed Ravenclaw if anything. She sat upright twisting her yellow and black tie between her fingers as she listened to whatever the dark haired girl was saying. Dorcas Meadows is one of the Hufflepuff prefects, she's also good friends with Remus Lupin and Marlene Mckinnon. Dorcas lives near Remus, in Yorkshire near the sea. Both of her parents are from South Africa, Dorcas visits her grandparents there every summer and she always talks about moving there once she's old enough. Her muggle father owns a butchers in the town and her mother looks after her two younger siblings. Dorcas, as well as all of the girls Lenora was sitting with, had heaps of food on their plates and were happily eating, except Lenora who didn't even have a plate in front of her.
Sirius narrowed his eyes, trying to be subtle as he watched Lenora talk to her friends. James noticed, turning around to look as well.
"What are you two up to?" Lily Evans asked, forking some mashed potato into her mouth as she glanced between the two boys. James grinned at her, wiping gravy from the side of his mouth with the sleeve of his robe. Lily grimaced, handing him a tissue.
"They're stalking Lenora Claret," Remus told her nonchalantly, knowing she'd disagree with it as much as he does. Lily opened her mouth, forming an 'o' shape as she glared at the two menacing Marauders.
