"Get up! Y/N we gotta go. Get the fuck up!"

It was dark when he shook me awake. We'd made it to Texas where we stayed for some time. Spencer needed to get things together so we would be financially okay. So we wouldn't leave bread crumbs. We'd stopped a few states out to take out his savings, which was heft, before traveling back to Huston.

"This isn't a joke, y/n! Get the fuck up!" He was shaking and pulling my naked body from the bed we shared. His voice was the most frantic I've heard yet. I had been in a deep sleep, and I struggle with getting out of bed as it is, let alone be shaken awake by my frantic criminal.

"I'm up! Jesus Christ." I rubbed my eyes, letting them adjust to the horrid yellow light of the hotel room. Spencer was running around the room, collecting our belongings and shoving them into bags.

"Put these one," he said as he threw me a pair of black jeans and a black hoodie. Something I wouldn't normally wear on the daily. The sweatshirt was his and I took in his scent as I pulled it over my head.

"What's going on, Spence?" You ran to the bathroom, grabbing your toothbrush and quickly brushing your teeth.

"Just hurry up!" He yelled. "I'll explain when we get in the car."

I scrambled to listen, spitting the toothpaste out and throwing it in my bag. I looked around the shitty hotel room one more time, making sure we had everything we needed. And when I was sure, I turned to really look at Spencer for the first time that morning.

He looked panicked, his hair sticking up in odd places from his tugging. His lips bloody from biting. His undereye bags larger than I'd seen in the past week. He looked absolutely terrified. And I had no clue why.

"Put your hood up and keep your head down. You talk to no one except me. Do you understand?" I nodded, tucking my hair into the sweatshirt and pulling up my hood. I watched as he threw a baseball hat on, pulling his hood on over it.

He grabbed our bags, slinging them over his shoulder before grabbing my wrist and pulling me from the room. I heard the door slam behind me as he continued to pull me towards the stairs. I did as he asked, keeping my eyes on my feet as he pulled me. I struggled to keep up, practically tripping down the stairs.

When we got to the bottom floor he stopped, turning to me and lifting my chin with his index finger. He smiled at me for a moment, his eyes searching my face, studying me, as his hand cupped my cheek. He ran his thumb over my skin, and I nuzzled into him on instinct.

"Who do you talk to, pup? Remind me, please." He ran his thumb over my bottom lip, pulling it lightly and letting it snap back into place. It was possessive and sweet.

"No one except you. I keep my hood up and my eyes down." He pulled me in for a kiss before handing me the bags.

"Good girl. Go to the car and talk to no one. Lock the doors when you get in." He grabbed a pair of sunglasses from his pocket, putting them on his gorgeous face and turning away from me.

I stood frozen, but only for a moment. I had no clue what was going on. I wasn't a complete idiot, however. I had an idea of what happened, but I had zero proof.

I scurried off to the car, throwing the bags in the trunk before getting into the passenger side. My leg bounced with anxiety as I waited for Spencer to come back to me. I decided to start the car, thinking music could calm my racing heart. I steadied my breathing, resting my head in my hands while I quietly hummed to the song I'd chosen. My head was reeling and my body was shaking.

"God, what's taking him so long?" I wondered out loud. I'd been sitting here for a good ten minutes.

But I didn't have to wonder long. A knock at the window made me jump and I peeked around my hood to see Spencer breathing heavily. I unlocked the doors and he slid in the drivers seat. He threw a bag in the back before throwing my car in reverse and speeding out of the spot.

"Spencer, what the fuck is going on?" I yelled to him once we were on the road.

"Where's your phone?" I stared at him with wide eyes. Why was he continuing to avoid my question? "I asked you a fucking question, pet! Where's your fucking phone?!"

My rage bubbled over at his shouting. "Don't fucking yell at me, Spencer or I'll-"

He turned to look at me for a moment, a small chuckle leaving his lips. His eyes flashed an emotion I couldn't place. "Or you'll what? Jump out of the car? Snitch on me? Try me, pup. I fucking dare you. You won't make it out of the fucking car."

My mouth dropped open and my eyes went wide. My heart cracked and I felt the stinging of tears. "You'd shoot me?"

He laughed. Literal belly laugh, "did I say that?"

My head was spinning as I choked on a sob. He didn't say it, but it was implied. I decided it was better to say nothing. I wiped my tears and reached for my phone, unplugging it and handing it to him.

He grabbed a sanitizing wipe from the bottle I had in the cup holder and took the phone. I watched as he wiped down my phone very well, before he rolled down the widow and chucked it. I said nothing as he rolled the window back up. I just sniffled and wiped my face from tears.

"It'll do you good to just listen to me next time, my pet." His tone was cold. I didn't say anything.

Instead, I curled my feet up onto the seat, wrapping my arms around them and resting my head on them. I faced the window so I wouldn't have to look at Spencer. My fingers played with the strings on my pants, occupying my mind from thinking of his words. My tears fell almost in silence. And it wasn't until I hiccupped slightly, that he acknowledged me.

"Y/N?" he rested his hand on my shoulder but I was quick to shove it off. So, he tried again. This time he settled it on the part of my thigh that wasn't touching my chest. And once again, I pushed him off, scooting closer to the window.

"Y/N... look I'm sorry. I- I didn't mean to say what I said." I still didn't look at him. I opted to stare out the window, watching as we passed field after field after field.

"It's whatever, Spencer." I deadpanned.

He pulled my hand from my legs and though I tried to pull away, he held tight. And then he kissed it as he slowed to a red light.

"Pup, look at me." I did then. Meeting his gaze with hurt written in my eyes. "I just- I really didn't mean that. You have to believe me." His eyes held a cold, far off look. I couldn't explain why it shook me in my core. But it did. It was a look I'd never unsee.

But I didn't care.

"I believe you, Spencer. It's okay."
