Chapter Fourteen: Breaking Down The Cast

Daniel and Winter watched the Cornucopia walls slide down the dune. The ground shakes. Their eyes lay on the volcano rising out of the sand. An announcement rumbles throughout the arena. Run to the center, or you will regret it. They ran as fast as possible up the volcano. A couple of tributes comes too but Daniel kills both of them.
Eighteen, seventeen tributes remain. They reached the top. Daniel spots a net at the bottom and they jump in.

Susie is running in from the grassland, she falls groaning in pain from the wounds from Oceana. She sees three tributes. She stabs into one and wolves comes and eats the other two. Susie, horrified ran away toward the volcano.

Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen, Thirteen.

She sees injured Drake and Jackson pulling him up, she goes to help them. Together they climb the mountain.

Jake and Leah clash into a fight with wolves. They fight and slash at the wolves. Rye leaps into the fight and stabs some of them. The three run toward the volcano and saw Susie, Jackson and Drake too at the top.

Drake was thrown into the volcano and one by one they jump except Leah, who sees Oceana and India fighting with three tributes. She runs down and saw the three unknown tributes being eaten by wolves. She urges Oceana and India to run and the girls run up the mountain.

They jump in the hole and a hatch shuts behind both of them from getting out.
Three more cannons blasted. Nine had died tonight and more was going to die.
The Head Gamemaker makes an announcement.

There are ten of you remaining and you have twenty minutes to fight before we make the volcano erupt and kill all but the victor.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

Daniel looked down, sad and horrified of what was going to happen. He soon would possibly die.

Winter glanced at the others. She looked at Jackson, then a spike struck Jackson and Jackson fell to his knees. He pukes out a large amount of blood before falling into the bloody mess. Boom.

Leah screams as another spike hits her ally Jake, Jake, spitting out a small amount of blood, choked on the poison in the spike before falling into the lava, his blood hissing on the edge of the lava like hot fiery acid. Boom.

Oceana has her razor fans, she was going to throw one at Leah. She threw the fan, Susie seeing the fan flying, and Susie jumped in front of Leah, the fan striking her in the chest. Leah cries in agony as she sees her hero die before her eyes. Boom.

Three was dead. Drake charged toward Oceana and knocked the fans out of her hand. Oceana unsheathed her brand new weapon and stabbed it into Drake. Spike poked out of the knife making Drake choke on his blood. He splatters his blood on Oceana, who now had the blood of four tributes on her hands. Boom.

India was horrified of the action unfolding before her eyes. She gets the knife Susie had dropped upon her death and stabbed it into Oceana's chest. A mistake, as Oceana is transformed into a lion mutt, her fur glowing in the hot lava of the volcano. India cries in shock and tries to run but is scratched up roughly and she dies losing blood. Boom.

Rye runs, jumps on the mutt, and pulls the knife out of the back of the mutt. Oceana screeches in pain. She stomps, pulls Rye off her back and then Rye is thrown into the wall, his skull and bones cracking into bits, and meets his fate in the hot acidic lava. Boom.

Daniel runs closer to the beast and holds up his gun. Oceana sees Daniel with the gun and runs towards him. Daniel pulls the trigger and then gets shoved down by the mutt. The gun shoots off and three of them hits Daniel. The bullets was poisoned, and so was Winter's knife. Winter leapt on her former sister and stabbed Oceana in the neck. Oceana howls and collapses. Boom.

Daniel's life was ebbing away from the earth. Winter was begging for him to stay with him. Daniel pulled a ring with a shiny blue sapphire off his finger and slipped it on Winter's index finger. He lifted his head and kissed her on her rose pink cheek. Then he murmured to her to win for him and finally his eyes, sparkling blue in the moon light faded from the earth. Boom.

Leah fell out of her shock of Jake and Susie's deaths and saw Susie, India, Drake and the mutt body that was Oceana's and Winter crying over Daniel. She saw that the timer had paused.

"Attention tributes, we have our final two. It's time to fight. You have ten minutes."

Winter looked up at Leah. Their eyes fell on each other, stormy grey and dark green.

They were the last two remaining. They had to fight.
