A catalyst to change

One dreadful, cold October night was all it took. That one bloody night for it all to change. The age of blood and flesh was barely hanging on, at the edge of extinction by power and metal. The Age of Machine's was upon those left behind.

Very few were lucky enough to have a sense normalcy after the change. You would see one of three groups, those of the walls who managed to survive the initial onslaught and retreated behind the walls and defenses they had erected to keep the machines out. They generally did a good job at defending but not so much on the offense, and I would often find them being slaughtered. They were an odd bunch, using bows, weapons from a time before the ancients discovered gunpowder but used many metals in them that the ancients had used. It's odd seeing this as they are afraid of the ancients as they are the ones who brought the cataclysm.

Then you have the ones from beyond the island itself. I didn't think it was possible for anyone to get through the machines defenses, let alone consistently but here they are. I'm not sure who they are or where they're from all I know is they can kill the machines pretty well, only problem is their isn't enough of them to make much of a difference. From the few times I've seen them I do have some sort of advanced tech involving their weapons on their back.

Then you have us, more accurately me as all the rest of us guerrilla fighters are all dead. We were by far the most effective fighting force, but now I'm all that's left of the elites, as we are the ones who have continually fought and died to try and free the island. We have created multiple safe houses across the island and we uncovered and named the classes of the machines you run into so we could form more effective tactics against them.

These machines may have unleashed hell upon us mortal men, but I promised myself that I would be upon them like the devil to reclaim what was lost to us. Lest it be the last bullet I shoot or the last breath and breathe I will find out what caused it and shut it down. That's the promise I make to us mortal men against the wave of steel that crashes upon our backs.
