I pack for the trip and meet Effie, Haymitch, Cinna, Portia and Katniss at the station. We head inside and I see all the train furniture again, green velvet cushions and polished oak. It's been a year. A whole year since Katniss and my journey began with a room similar to this. This was the first time we spoke. The first time I met Haymitch. I nibble on some cakes to clear my head of the thoughts.
But at that point Effie shouts "right! Dinner is waiting!" While stood next to the huge wooden table, and my eyes are drawn to the food. I don't know why I'm so hungry, I have unlimited wealth after the last games, but for some reason my stomach churns for the meat laying on the plate in my usual spot. As I near closer I don't see a huge knife wound in the table from Katniss' attempt to cut Haymitch's fingers off. They must have replaced it.
Eventually all but Effie are gathered around the table and is stuffing their faces with food. Well... Haymitch and I.
"Fabulous food, fabulous wine, massage, spa treatments I told them! Nothing but the best for my two Victors." Effie struts towards the table baring more pointless snacks and placing them on a counter. "Everything must be-"
"Fabulous?" Haymitch jokes. I let out a little smirk, he's always been able to make me smile in some way. That's probably why he says he prefers me to Katniss, because I appreciate his humour.
"Exactly." Effie sighs. "Now..."
She waffles on about the schedule and what where we're going and such, so I just zone out. Leaving me to enjoy my meal. However, I hear Katniss' voice change the tone,
"What did you say?" She demands.
"Katniss..." I warn her.
"I said enjoy it Katniss, you've earned it." Effie repeats herself, although I wouldn't know if she was as I was neck deep in my steak. But now my eyes are fixated on Katniss,
"By killing people." She reminds Effie emotionlessly, stands and takes herself to her room.
"Young lady..." Effie sighs.
We finish eating and Effie and Haymitch head off to their rooms. But I go to find Katniss.
