The morning sun dawned upon them. Susan woke up yawning and saw her sister sleeping peacefully next to her. She smiled at Lucy and sat up.
'Susan, are you awake?'
'I am, Peter.'
Peter came into the tent, carrying a bottle of water. There were beads of sweat on his forehead; he had opted for an early morning run.
'Morning, Pete,' Susan said cheerfully, already gathering up her cushion, which she'd used as a pillow, and tidying the ground.
'Morning.'
Both of them stepped out, careful not to wake Lucy. Susan brought her satchel and bottle outside and breathed in the refreshing morning air. Peter had a drink before vigorously coughing out a murky, brown coloured liquid. His bottle was filled with the extremely bitter concoction which made him want to throw up. It was the most bitter thing he had ever tasted in his life-much worse than the medicines he had been made to swallow once when he had been suffering from pneumonia. It felt like eating a whole can of-cocoa powder?
'Good Lord!' a gasp escaped from Susan's lips. 'How on earth...Peter, spit it out. Just spit! Here, have this, it'll help!'
She handed him her own bottle. Peter downed half of the contents this time, before realizing that they tasted funny too. Was it...was he drinking seawater? Or worse, it was water with an unusually high amount of sodium chloride concentration, and he spat it out once again. Susan looked confused this time. 'It's full of salt!!!'
'Salt? Rubbish. You've gone mad, Pete. I'm sure it is perfectly fine.'
She took a sip and immediately covered her mouth. Her disgruntled, almost petrified expression was worth watching, and two voices rang through the clear skies, bursting into laughter. Peter and Susan swivelled backwards and in outraged voices, cried out, 'Edmund and Lucy Pevensie! Don't you dare!'
