"This is the shape that he will stay in until it is time for him to live again." Death said as he tuned away from the portal. It slowly began to close as he made his way to his desk. Jessica stared at the closing space for a moment more. "Wow" she breathed.
She turned to death and asked "How do you decide where they go?" He closed the now filled book. There was something different about it. There was the name Jase Flake on the cover. As he picked up the book another one took its place. Death then proceded to the back of the room where a door appeared, and he motioned for Jessica to fallow.
There was nothing significant she could see at the back of the room. That was, until death tapped the the wall. It slid back about an inch and slid open the the left. Behind the wall was a library of some sort, and once again Jessica was in awe.
It was well lit with torches. (Yes the fire ones.) There were hooded figures walking in and out of the rows of book shelves. Each was holding a book similar to the one death was holding. "Who are they?" Jessica asked as she looked at death.
"Those are the first bones of each soul." He replied as if it were obvious. She was even more confused then she was before.
"What do you mean?" She wondered. She thought that it was odd that there were others here other than Death, and that he had said what he said.
"They are my reapers" he explained. "They help me reap the souls of the dead. But instead of reaping just any soul, they reap their own souls each time there living bodies die."
"And so, instead of making a new reaper out of the new bones of the dead each time, I only make a new reaper for a soul when that reaper decays, or is destroyed." He continued.
