A week later...
It feels a little working in this new cafe. Like I'm betraying Carmella. Her cafe was the best; flexible hours, working with Romeo, eating cakes behind the counter and the beautiful sun that shone through the glass. But this cafe... your classic american diner style cafe. It was cute but nothing could top Carmella's. Hers was the best and everyone agreed.
Harry knew about my new job and he told my mom. She didn't care, in fact she said "finally, you got to do something with your life". I ignored her comment and just carried on about my day.
I was on tills today and I was hunched over the desk, waiting for someone to come up. The girl who gave my name in to the Boss, Lisa, wasn't in work today so I was alone.
I look up from staring at my shoes and to my surprise there's a boy with a little girl on his back, who I'm assuming his little sister.
"Hi! What can I get you?" I ask, happily.
"You're number." He winks. I cough awkwardly and give him a 'really?' look.
"Can I get a.. brownie and what do you want Gracie?" He looks up to the little girl.
"CAKE!" She squeals.
"Yes but what cake?" He asks a little sterner.
"Um... that one!" She point to the chocolate cake.
"Brownie and chocolate cake then... Chiara." He looks at my name badge.I pick up a slice of the chocolate cake and place it in a takeaway box. I put the boys brownie in next to it. Handing the box over, he hands me a ten dollar bill. I raise an eyebrow. It only added up to 4 dollars and he's giving me ten.
"Um Sir, it's only 4 dollars." I say confused.
"Keep the change. Say thank you Gracie." He tickles her.
"Thank you Gracie." She says with a cheeky grin."Gracie, properly." He scowls.
"Thank you cafe woman! See I can be nice Benny." She says.
"Thank you Chiara." He gives me a sweet smile and Gracie waves.
"Bye guys." I give a final goodbye and sigh as they leave. The door bell chimes as they leave but someone else walks in.
"Chloe!" I shout as I look up.
"Chiara! How's it going? And that boy who just walked out..." She wiggles her brows.
"The little girl's adorable." I say with a smile. "You can have the boy. I got mine."
"The one and only Romeo." She laughs."What you doing here then Clo." I sigh, tired from working.
"Harry asked to meet here." She rolls her eyes.
"Oh ugh I'm sorry." I roll my eyes.
"It's whatever Chiara. Whatever to get you back to Italy. AND I STILL NEED TO MEET ROMEO IN REAL LIFE!" She gives me a look.
"Oh you'll be living in Italy with me." I giggle.Harry walks in with his sun glasses on the top of his head. He nods his head at me and smirks at Chloe.
"Hey girls." He says with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Why'd you want to meet me here Harry?" Chloe asks.
"Wanted to hang out ya know. Hear the latest Romeo gossip." He looks at me.
"I haven't spoke to him. Don't know if you noticed but his contact was removed from my phone. I have to work can you go to the booths please." I sigh.
"Why don't we just sit..." He sit's on the stool by the bars. "Here."I roll my eyes and let it be. Chloe takes a seat next to him and gives me a sorry look. I get back to work, stalling my time when no customers come in. In the times where I'm just looking out the windows, Harry calls me over. Either asking for a drink, something to eat or just random comments. I don't know how Chloe puts up with him.
CHLOE'S POV:
I just got home after an hour of Harry asking me continuous questions about Chiara and Romeo in the cafe. Of course I covered for her. I just said things like 'she doesn't speak about him anymore' or 'she hasn't told me anything like that'.
My phone begins ringing so I lean over my bed to see who's calling.
Romeo.
I answer and bring the phone to my ear.
"Hey Chloe."
"Hey Romeo."
"How is she?" He asks referring to Chiara.
"She's ok. She got a job at a cafe... said something about Carmella and how she's better. I don't know." I wave it off. I hear him chuckle lightly to himself.
"We still on for next week?" I ask.
"Yeah I'll be staying at the hotel there. I'll text you when I get there and you can come over?""Yeah sounds good."
"Just don't let Chiara find out." His voice is serious.
"Of course."
