New story! Woo-hoo! Tell me how you like it! It's a bit different than Nothing to Lose, but at the same it's a type of forbidden romance thing. Feedback? :)

Summer always begins with a jolt.
This summer, the jolt was Darren Karisoff.
He had appeared so suddenly. One minute, he was bumping chests with some guys on the lacrosse team, the second minute, his arm was draped around my best friend as he leaned down to kiss her.
And the third minute, I was dying.
An upbringing, deafening cheer erupted from the audience who were now fully standing up on the bleachers, rocking their fists into the air and a few who were carrying ‘BOBCATS’ posters, not to mention one odd fellow waving a large, crooked foam finger in the air.
“I don’t see what the big deal is,” my best friend, Emily Wilden shouted over the applause to me.
I turned, prying my eyes away from the lacrosse game, to explain to Emily, “That last goal they hit?”
Emily nodded, cocking her head as if gesturing me to move on, like she still didn’t get it.
“That move, yeah, they won the game, Emily,”
She stood upright with such force the hot dog in my hand was knocked to the ground, where the saucy ketchup seeped into the metal bleacher. “Um—“
“Yay!” she cried, oblivious to the barely-eaten hot dog on the floor. “Go Hellcats!”
“It’s Bobcats, Em.”
“Go Bobcats!” she corrected, pumping her fist into the air while bouncing up and down. “Woo-hoo!”
I frowned, then gathered my lopsided hot dog and, a disgusted look on my face, handed it to the freshman student who volunteered to sell hot dogs, piling dirty napkins on top of it to be put in the trash.
Ducking my head, I raised the hood of my oversized sweatshirt over my head. I seemed to be the only one feeling the light-weighted rain pellets falling slowly from the sky. The others, including Emily, who had no idea what was going on, were too busy cheering on the lacrosse players and waving their painted hands in the air, showing what spirit they had.
“Emily, it’s raining, so I’m gonna go home. Do you need a ride?” I asked.
“Yay! Wa-hoo! Go Bobcats!” was the response, from not one, but a hundred other people.
“Emily,” I murmured, tugging on her sleeve.
She finally whirled around. “Wait, what?
Sighing, I stated, “I said I was going—“
A large, handsome lacrosse player slipped through the gap between me and Emily, then swooped down and scooped Emily up in his arms.
Emily’s face immediately lit up, as if she didn’t hear what I said.
Backing up, I slowly drawled out, “I guess not.” I shouted to Emily. “You’ll have him dropping you home.”
The lacrosse player turned to me, eyebrows raised, and his familiar face shone in the strip of sunlight there was between the clouds. The familiar face of Darren Karisoff.
“Oh,” Darren said, setting Emily down as if he didn’t see me.
I shrugged, clamping my lips together. “I’ll take that as a yes.” I leaned forward to redeem my car keys from the bleacher seat. “Bye, Em.”
As I ran down the steps, I heard Darren Karisoff make a remark, followed by Emily’s laughter.
Yet that was only the start.
