Chapter 12

"You're sure about this?" Thalia asked him while they were sitting under the shade of a fir tree two days later.

"Yes. I'd like to know what the hell I am at least," Raf sighed beside her.

"Did you tell Roi that he's hexed too?" Thalia asked again.

"Yup, I linked him the moment you told me, and then we discussed it over dinner," Raf confirmed.

"You think I can link him too?" Thalia wondered aloud. "I'll try."

"What?" Raf asked in confusion and noticed her eyes gloss over.

"Hey, Roi. It's Thalia," Raf noticed her smile.

"Hi," Roi chuckled. "I forgot we could do this."

"Same. This is fun," Thalia replied excitedly.

"Are you talking to Roi?" Raf squinted his eyes at his mate.

"Yes," Thalia smiled brightly at him. "It works. It's like I have two packs."

"Great," Raf grumbled. "Leave my mate alone," He quickly linked Roi.

"No," Roi turned off the link.

"Did you just warn him off?" Thalia raised a brow at her mate.

"Yes," Raf simply shrugged.

"Oh dear god!" Thalia rolled her eyes.

"Where were we?" Raf changed the topic.

"Let's just go meet my mom," Thalia sighed loudly and started walking towards her mom's office. Raf followed behind her.

As soon as Gwen confirmed they could enter the office, Thalia opened the door and plopped down on a chair. Gwen looked at her daughter questioningly.

"I'm sleepy," Thalia informed her, suddenly feeling very tired. Her body was probably allowing itself to feel the post-marking symptoms now that Rafail was around. All the sleepless nights she had spent were bound to be noticeable at some point.

"Thalia told me you are ready for me to try and track the witch that hexed you," Gwen turned towards Raf.

"Yeah, I think I want the answers sooner rather than later," Raf nodded as Gwen invited him to sit on the chair next to Thalia. Raf looked around her office.

It was a bright room painted in a warm, light yellow color. The walls were hidden by wooden racks, which were filled with either books or bottles containing weird-looking specimens. Plants were scattered around the edges of the room and some little pots sat on racks and a nearby desk, where they could get directly hit by the sunlight. In the middle, a large wooden table separated the space, on either side of which chairs were placed. Several objects were carefully placed above the table along with a stack of papers on one side. There was a leathery couch on the side, with some pillows and a blanket on top of it. A laptop and a printer were some of the few modern gadgets around.

"What about Roi?" Gwen asked as she too took a seat, interrupting Raf's curious gaze.

"We believe we were hexed by the same person. Thalia also thinks so. It is enough to track it out of one of us I assume," Raf told her.

"Yes, it'd be enough," Gwen said as she took out a book written in Theban, the language that all witches knew instinctively from the second their abilities showed. All their incantations were sung in Theban. To others, the book looked like someone decided to draw circles all around. Actually, unless you had a witch somewhere down the line of your family tree, you'd never be able to even look at the letters as they really were. It was the witches' way to protect themselves from other species stealing their abilities.
Of course, throughout history, witches started mixing and marrying with other species so nowadays there was quite a number of people that could actually read Theban but still they'd never be able to do anything with it anyway. Unless magic was flowing in your veins, it was inutile to try and cast spells.
