Chapter 22
"Is there proof?" Raf's darkened eyes found Blynn's.
"Small bits of it," Blynn sighed as her shoulders dropped. "But every lead I've followed ends with him."
"He did have the motive and the means to do it," Declan rubbed a hand across his jaw.
"And he got what he always wanted. He has been acting like a king for 18 years," Roi said through gritted teeth. "I'll fucking kill him."
Keenan walked to Roi and patted his back. "I'm with you, son. But if we don't get more proof, we can never win this."
"How do we get the proof then?" Raf's knuckles had turned white as he tried to maintain control over his wolf. Thalia looked at him with worry. When she noticed the blood running down his skin, she quickly pried his fingers open and held his hand. Raf looked at his mate and sighed lowly, relaxing under her touch.
"I've been keeping an eye on a member of Black Hawk that left the pack when the attack happened," Blynn revealed.
Roi raised a brow at her. "Keeping an eye?"
"Spying," She clarified with a slight cough. "That's why I didn't see your message for so long. I wasn't home."
"Did you manage to find anything?" Thalia asked while she drew patterns on Rafail's skin with her thumb.
"That's the problem. As soon as I allowed myself to be spotted so I could chat with him, he ran," Blynn let out an exasperated sigh.
"He's definitely hiding something," Declan said thoughtfully.
"Or he just got spooked by her pupils," Roi snorted, making Blynn let out a small chuckle. She was happy he was finally being more like himself.
"That's a possibility," Blynn nodded in amusement. "But he ran for his dear life and I couldn't even catch up with him."
"Not surprised," Declan shrugged. "You're basically a granny."
"Hey," Blynn slightly slapped his neck with her magic.
"How do we find him?" Raf looked back and forth between Keenan and Blynn.
"I stole some piece of cloth from his house. I could track him," Blynn pursed her lips.
"Why haven't you yet?" Roi inquired.
"Um," Blynn stared at one of her rings. "As soon as I got home, I saw Keenan's message and well, I've had more important things to focus on."
Raf sighed. "Can you get to doing that now?"
"Yes," Blynn replied. "But we need a plan. I suspect he knows I'm a witch so he'll be on the move to make tracking harder."
"But it's been two weeks," Thalia commented.
"During which, according to him, he has successfully managed to avoid me."
"We're more people now," Keenan rubbed his temples. "You don't need to find out his precise place. With our numbers, we can cover more ground."
"That's true," Blynn turned to her friend. "But don't forget that Raf still needs training and that we can't tell anyone else that is not in this room about this story. It is too risky."
"What about Talbot?" Gwen suggested. "He can lead the pack while we search."
"I don't think leaving the pack without an alpha is a good idea," Declan said with seriousness. "We don't know how long finding him will take and we can't ignore the fact that hunters are hanging over our heads now."
