(TNW)..."Well, I told you from the beginning Fatima, I told you everything is in your court. Would you have been crying now if you did the right thing?"
"No."
"No what?"
"No. I would not."
"Your happiness and our peaceful coexistence depend totally on you." Another dam of tears broke. She believed in this theory of his during the early stage of their marriage. She tried to do everything right but things went south. It took ages for her to realize that it required more than the effort of a single spouse to make a family happy. It was just one of the wrong theories of his.
She answered him anyways.
Perhaps he was even right.
She had never seen a man who was so correct about his position like Sharif. Confident, he always rightly predicted what happened to her.
"By the way, this marriage will come to an end the next time you miss my call!" He hung up.
Question is, how was she supposed to know he was the one calling?
Chapter Five - A Trip Back In Time."Goggo Hajja called me yesterday, I told you that, right?" Zahra began to explain to Pendo Dija while she played with the hem of her head tie. Pendo Dija, who was sitting on the edge of the bed beside her, nodded attentively.
She scrutinized her niece, her eyes were still puffy and red from crying even though she avoided her gaze by concentrating on the hem of her head tie.
"Yes, yes." She nodded again repeatedly with rapt attention.
After they had gotten home the previous day, Pendo Dija had prepared a warm water into the bathtub for her, seeing how distraught she was. She had left her without questioning, giving her time to rest well before asking her for explanations. That happened to be the following day.
"Apparently," Zahra continued tentatively "after she called me, she had called him as well to request for explanations on why I'm overstaying with you, but he was not happy about that."
"Perhaps he thought you reported him." Pendo Dija suggested, biting her lower lip after a few seconds of silence had passed. Her suggestion came out as though it was the best thing she could muster. Of course, she was anticipating a bigger problem for the cause of the rift but at the same time didn't want to flare up.
"No, he didn't, he also knew I didn't, I wouldn't. I couldn't. I never did that. He just wanted to vent his anger on me."
"Hmmm! so...?" She asked with an arched brow.
"So, I apologized. He said a lot of hurtful things to me. As usual." Zahra shrugged and then paused for a moment, lost in thought. Suddenly, she asked, sincerely confused, "But why are men like that, Pendo? He never fails to misunderstand me. I feel so exhausted and worn out. I have actually burnt out. I am so out of ideas on how to make things work out between us." She broke down again.
