Naruto sat at the docks near the city, his bare feet touching the waters that reflected the soft hues of the dying sunlight, hair fluttering in the cool winds as he watched the sky through the water's eyes. He looked at his own reflection and touched his growing hair subconsciously, the tips had now almost reached his shoulders, he had grown a good few inches more in height too. His gaze went to the clouds that were painted in iridescent colours of orange and tones of pink.
He hoped that Sasuke had gotten his letter and that the raven was safe – wherever he was. He smiled to himself; he didn't feel very lonely despite the mild emptiness he felt. He knew the other will be safe and would come home again soon, he knew where his heart was and that was all he needed; they never needed words between them to understand and feel the other. Even when apart they knew they would be ok. That's when he felt a familiar chakra signature behind him as a cloaked figure stood near him before taking a seat beside him, "It's a nice afternoon isn't it?"
"Sasuke!?" he cried in disbelief and joy, it warmed Sasuke's heart to see those blue eyes fill with so much joy and wonder at his return. Without wasting a minute Naruto sprung from his seat wrapped his arms around the other with tears of relief and happiness. Sasuke's eyes widened at first, unfamiliar with the gesture before closing his eyes and nuzzling his nose at the crook of the other's neck affectionately, relishing the warmth of their embrace. Soon Naruto broke the hug excitedly and gushed,
"Where have you been? Did you get my letter? Did you eat before you arrived, I could cook if you want, are you-"
Sasuke chuckled deeply before poking his head lovingly with a small warm smile, "I've been staying at Otagakure for a while. Yes I got your letter and I'm fine dobe, you don't have to worry yourself to take care of me."
Naruto pouted, "How can I not worry about you? You've been gone for months to who knows where and there's no way for me to know if your ok, if your hurt or sick," he trailed off in a sad tone that made Sasuke feel guilty. He had felt the same while he was away too. He wrapped his arm around the other's waist and leaned closer as the other rested his head upon his shoulder.
"I'm sorry." He whispered to the blond locks.
Naruto merely smiled, "It's ok. You're home and that's all that matters right now."
"Hn."
"You need a wider vocabulary teme."
––000––
A few weeks later Sasuke settled down comfortably at the apartment (although he did wish that Naruto had a better place to stay – the blond ninja on the other seemed content in where he was). He loved waking up to see those blue eyes everyday when he rises and before he sleeps at night. Turns out Naruto was an intimate cuddler – not that he minded at all. It had become a steady routine where they rise early to train for a good two hours ["Ready to get beat again?" "You wish dobe"] , then cook break fast together [ "We're not having ramen again," "Why not teme?!"] before Naruto heads off to the academy for his studies to become Hokage and Sasuke takes on private Anbu missions for the Hokage seeing he had a lot of free time on his hand before they both come back home and take turns to make dinner and head off to bed. Weekends were spent with leisure and training; it all felt homely and domestic, it felt like they were already married – the thought didn't sound too bad for Sasuke though.
