I was sat in the lounge staring aimlessly at the crap that was currently playing on the TV. I had tuned out about an hour ago. What even was this?
I sighed and let my thoughts wander again. How's dad doing? My inner voice asked me. Well, I have no fucking clue is the only response I could come up with. How sad was that?
I had heard nothing since we had been to the hospital when we first found out about the crash, which as Sue was constantly reminding us, meant that nothing had happened. So in other words it meant that dad was still unstable, because I'm sorry but I've always had troubble with looking on the bright side. It only gives you more hope that can be crushed I clenched my hands into fists. He would not die on me. I wouldn't allow it.
"Hey, where did everyone go?" Sarah asked ripping me from my thoughts.
Peter and the twits and been sat with us the last time I had checked, I hadn't noticed them leaving. I shrugged in answer to the question, not in the mood to talk.
"They're up to something". Her voice was quiet with suspicion. "It's the perfect time for it, the parents are out and the summer holidays have just started. I knew there was an ulterior motive behind Peter coming home from uni!" I frowned the stage wisper volume and dramatic tone she was using.
It was then that I realised that she thought she knew what they were doing and was playing along. I felt my self tense up, becomeing very wary of my situation. If she was playing along, was this joke going to be at my expense?
I watched carefully as she slowly rose from her chair. Glancing at me she crept silently towards the kitchen. The look in her eyes surprised me: mischief.
She was enjoying this.I shook my head as her back disappeared around the corner. I would not follow. I was above this childish game they were apparently playing.
Deep breaths.
You will not follow.
You will not follow.
You will not fol-Oh what the hell.I could feel my inner child jumping with joy as I climbed out of my chair and stealthily moved to the door. When nothing looked out of place except Sarah and her narrowed eyed gaze that was sweeping every inch of the room, I moved forward to join her.
"Couldn't resist the adventure?" she teased eyebrow raised.
"Oh sure, something like that. Go on then lead the way".
"Ahh, I see, you were afraid to be left on your own. Don't worry I won't let the big bad pigeons hurt you" she paused "much".
I scowlled at her.
"Pigeons? Of all the animals why pigeons? They're not even slightly scary". This girl really was something else. Pigeons? Was that the best she could come up with? She snorted "Tell that to some of my friends".
The smile that was sent my way to accompany her response made my heart clench in fear. If I ever imagined a crazy scientist smiling, it would look like the face Sarah was pulling now. I shivered, and not in a good way.
Perhaps I wasn't far off with the crazy scientist thing yesterday.
"Okay". I cleared my throat. "Are we going on this 'adventure' or are you chickening out on me?" I smirked to cover my discomfort.
A feeling of satisfaction seeped into my vains as I watched her pretty face transform into a scowl. Wait pretty?
I must still be under the influence of those lovely hospital drugs.
Huffing, Sarah turned to the door that led into foyer.
"I am not afraid". She spat in my direction, and with those famous last words she yanked the door open further. And then I understood why it had been left slightly open in the first place.
