Max's POV
They restarted his heart. Just barely. But, it was still beating.
I begged for an hour before they finally let me into his room for a few minutes. I ran to his frail body. He looked horrible attached to so many things with IVs and wires. I didn't like it. I took his cold hand in mine, and I held it to my heart.
"Come back, Tom," I pleaded, "We can work this all out. It'll be hard, but I can forgive you. Maybe you can forgive me. We could be happy again. Tom, I still love you. I'm still in love with you. I can't move on. Please. If you can hear me, please, just listen. I don't hate you. At all. I want my happy-go-lucky TomTom back. I don't even care if you don't love me anymore. You can be with me. You can be with Jay. I. Don't. Care. Just LIVE. Please. Please, Tom. Please..." Tears streamed down my face as my voice broke and my sobs racked through my body. Tom's eyelids didn't even flutter. I just kept muttering "please" crying over his too still body until a nurse came in and told me I had to move back to the waiting room. I silently nodded.
"Is he... Will he..." I struggled to ask the question I couldn't bare to think, much less say outloud.
"The doctors have given him a fifty-fifty chance. The truth is, we just don't know," she sighed. I was afraid of that.
I walked numbly back to the waiting room. Four pairs of eyes watched me and waited carefully.
"He's breathing," I finally managed to say. I heard four sighes, but I kept my head forward, staring at nothing in particular.
The nurse that kicked me out burst into the waiting room at some point after I'd been staring at the wall for a while. She was out of breath, like she'd just been running, "You... may want to come with me," I stood and made my way to where she was waiting for me. She led me quickly back to Tom's room. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I opened the door into his room and saw his brown eyes finally staring back at me.
"He just woke up, but he's been asking for you," She said as she made her way back out.
"Tom-" I ran to his bedside.
"Did you mean it, Max? What you said, did you mean it?" He asked.
"Every word," I replied without a trace of doubt in my voice.
"Okay," he found my hand, puling me closer. I leaned in closer until our lips met, and he pulled me onto the bed next to him. I laughed, holding him in my arms. Suddenly, everything was right in my universe again.
Jay's POV
I was standing next to Nathan, anxiously awaiting the news that we could go see Tom. We were all so thankful that he was okay, especially Max. Max got to see him first, and any minute the nurse would let us see him as well. Finally, the nurse came around the corner, smiled at us, and nodded.
Nath and I were the first ones to his room. We walked in, anxious to see Tom awake, and were greeted by a surprising sight. Max was lying next to Tom, his arms wrapped around Tom and Tom's head resting on his shoulder. Tom was pretty much asleep but Max was just beaming down at him.
"Are we interrupting something?" Nathan asked with a mischievous grin on his face.
Max just smiled and pulled Tom even closer to him. I was happy that they were back together. Tom needed to be with Max, not me. Nathan was the one for me, he always had been. I just needed a way to make him see that.
"We'll come back later, then, when he's awake?" I suggested.
Max nodded and closed his eyes. He was probably exhausted after the events of today, as the rest of us were.
