Regina was once young, once innocent, once kind. But it all changed after a night in the stables. The day Daniel died. Before then, the queen had never realised that even the slightest thing could have the biggest of consequences. She'd never realised that Snow telling a secret could lead to this.

Once again, it seemed everything had been taken from her - just not like last time. This time, she got the pleasure of watching the pair together, each second she spied upon them sending more anger rushing through her veins. This time, there was a family involved. If this had been Snow's idea, or even Tinkerbell's, the queen would have disposed of them already, but that was something she wouldn't do to her daughter. Sure, she was angry, angry enough to lock Nila out of her chambers, however she wasn't evil anymore.

Regina paced around her room, the cape of her dress trailing on the floor. She was dressed in all black, but with her hair down, falling in curls down to her waist, reflecting her sorrow. How was she going to deal with this? The simplest answer would be to kill Marian, but while her children were here, she realised that wouldn't be the best idea. Robin would never forgive her, let alone what her daughter and Roland would think. No, something like this needed to be handled with care.

Just then, the queen heard a loud knock on her door. She gasped, wondering who it could be. Hoping it was her daughter, she wiped away her tears and opened the door cautiously. It wasn't Nila.

"Hello, Regina." She struggled to read his facial expression as he stood there against the door frame, "Can I have a moment?" He asked, "I want to talk." The Queen nodded as he came to sit down on her chaise longue. She sat a good distance away from the thief, not wanting to be tempted by his looks. Placing one hand on her lap, she nervously pushed away a strand of hair from her eyes.

"I'm sorry."

"Why are you sorry?" Regina replied, feeling the tears form in her eyes. "Everything Marian said was true, I am a monster." Robin smiled, shuffling closer to her.

"The woman I know is the furthest thing from a monster. You put others before yourself and you've saved me, twice, and you've saved both of our children." He said our. Our children. For just a second, she almost felt a small glimmer of hope in her eyes. Maybe Snow was right about hope.

"So... what went on between us-"

"Was real." Robin continued, watching as she smiled, "My feelings for you were, are, real." The queen gazed into his eyes, searching for permission to lean in and kiss him. Robin ran his hands through her hair, smiling and catching her falling tears with a gentle hand. "I love you." He whispered, before letting his lips meet hers.

Maybe the book was wrong, maybe she would get her happy ending, maybe things would work out between them.

Regina only knew something was wrong when he pulled away, avoiding her gaze and staring down at the floor. "But Marian's my wife." There it was, the sentence that would change everything. How could she have ever thought he'd choose her, the evil queen, over his sweet wife, the mother of his son. She knew her past would catch up with her sooner or later, but she hadn't imagined it would hurt as bad as this. It was different this time. She was different. Since losing Daniel, Regina had grown up, matured, figured out who she really was. And of course it still hurt, but in a different way.

"I loved her, and I made a vow, 'Until death do us part.' And, it did. Until it kind of didn't." If she was being honest, she'd forgotten Robin was still there. In her mind, she was that same little girl from the day at the stables, crying over her loved one's body. "But my vow remains." He continued, watching as Regina's eyes seemed to darken, holding back her tears. He knew she loved him very much, which was why he had to do this. It was why he had to let her go.

"So," She said, shrugging her shoulders as if nothing had happened, as if she was totally fine, "You made your choice." Her voice seemed to drop almost an octave, reminding Robin of her past life as the evil queen. He tried to remind himself that, whatever happened, she wouldn't go back to being that way. She couldn't, no, she'd come too far.

"I may be a thief, but I have a code. And I try to live by that code every day of my life. Because, otherwise, what kind of life am I living?"

Regina wanted, more than anything, to stand up and beg him to choose her, to tell him to follow his heart. But, before she could say anything, he stood up. "I hope you can look into your heart and understand." Robin nodded before turning around and leaving, not even remembering to shut the door on his way out.

She'd had her heart broken, again.

Regina stood up, placed her hands on her hips and turned around. Breathing shakily as she contemplated what had just happened. How dare he? How dare he waltz in here and break her heart? No. She wasn't going to stand for it. The queen needed to find a way to channel that anger, otherwise she could seriously risk losing all her previous progress.

She listened as she heard the mirror smash to the floor behind her. It wasn't like she needed that particular one anyway, she had more than enough. How was she going to regain her chance at happiness? The easiest solution would be, as she already had thought, to kill Marian, but how?

Regina paced around the room once more, kicking a shard of shattered glass to the side of the room in anger. She turned, focusing on the empty frame opposite her. While she had first thought that she didn't need it, maybe a mirror was exactly what she needed to complete her revenge. Smiling evilly, she waved her hand and disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke. The queen knew exactly what she was going to find. Or, more importantly, who.

"Hello, Sidney."
