Chapter Nine - Proteus

As the gang war intensified, the battle was in a stalemate. The tide soon turned when Repton and his forces joined the battle. 

Repton: All right, boys! Let's show them how the Raptors fight!

Repton led the Raptors in a charge against the Colonel's forces. The Raptors cut their way through the Colonel's forces and joined Dark Ace and the Cyclonians. 

Repton: Dark Ace! Today is a good day to die!

Dark Ace: I have no intentions of dying today!

Repton: The fight for your life, Dark Ace! My boys and I are going to earn our pay!

With that, the Raptors fought side by side with the Cyclonians. As the battle began to turn against the Colonel's forces, reinforcements arrived and it soon returned to a stalemate. In response to this, Falcon made his way into the Cyclonian Compound to aid the Colonel in hunting down Master Cyclonis. Meanwhile in his lab, Doctor Skaal was working on Proteus. He looked upon the nearly completed android with a smile on his face and pride in his eyes.

Skaal: Soon, Proteus. Soon you will be given life. I have been waiting years for this day. 

As Skaal continues working on Proteus, Falcon enters the lab and readies his bow and arrow. He walks over to Skaal and aims his bow at the back of his head. Skaal quickly sighs. 

Skaal: This gang war is becoming quite bothersome. I can't seem to get any work done without some thug barging into my lab. 

Falcon: Cyclonis brought this on herself. Now she and her allies will fall. 

Skaal: This petty gang war is of no concern of mine. All that matters is my work. 

As Skaal ignored Falcon, he fires a warning shot which narrowly misses Skaal's head and hits the wall next to the inactive Proteus. Skaal's only reaction was a sigh. 

Falcon: The Cyclonian Syndicate has fallen. Master Cyclonis has planted the seeds for it's destruction. The Colonel offered her prosperity, but she refused it. Now she will suffer the consequences. 

Skaal: Then beneath the earth those hidden blessings for man, bronze, iron, silver and gold—who can claim to have discovered before me? No one, I am sure, who wants to speak to the purpose. In one short sentence understand it all: every art of mankind comes from Prometheus. 

Falcon: Do you not fear death?

Skaal: It is not my time to die. I have too much work to do. You shall be the first to witness something.....beautiful. 

Skaal then presses a button on a remote control device. A low hum was heard as Proteus's circuits began to power up. As Proteus was powered up, his eye began to glow red. In that moment, Skaal was overcome with pride. 

Skaal: Behold, Proteus!

Falcon's focus immediately went to Proteus. Once he was fully powered up, he broke from his binds and approached the two. Skaal was filled with pride while Falcon became cautious. 

Proteus: Proteus activated. Awaiting orders. 

Skaal: Kill this intruder.

Proteus: Understood.

Proteus then turns to Falcon. Without hesitation, Falcon begins to fire arrows at Proteus, but the arrows bounce off the android's armor. 

Falcon: Dios mio! What are you?!

As Proteus gets closer to Falcon, Falcon attempts to retreat. Before he could reach the exit, he is grabbed by Proteus and was thrown against a wall. Falcon attempts to reach for his bow, Proteus slams his fist right into Falcon's face, knocking most of his teeth out in the process. Falcon spits out blood as he tries to crawl away. Proteus then grabs Falcon by the head and proceeds to slowly crush it. Falcon screams in agonizing pain as Proteus crushes his head. After brutally killing Falcon, Proteus throws Falcon's body aside. 

Proteus: Objective completed. Hostile intruder has been terminated. 

Skaal was filled with pride by what he had just witnessed. Proteus dispatched Falcon quickly and without much effort. In that moment, Skaal gazed upon Proteus with immense pride in his eyes. 

Skaal: Beautiful. You have surpassed all my expectations! My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair! The lone and level sands stretch far away. Nothing beside remains. Round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away.

As Skaal marvels upon Proteus, the sound of the battle outside caught Skaal's attention. 

Skaal: Now this is the perfect time to test your capabilities, Proteus. Outside this building are enemies of the Cyclonian Syndicate. Enemies who seek to destroy our Syndicate. Your task is to destroy them with extreme prejudice. 

As Skaal gave his orders, Proteus was silent for a moment. He glanced over to Falcon's body and scans it. 

Proteus: Parameters set. All members of the Colonel's Syndicate shall be eliminated. 

Skaal: Leave the Colonel alive. Master Cyclonis will deal with him. 

With that, Proteus left Skaal's lab, ready to fulfil his orders. Skaal smiled as Proteus was at last given life. He would watch Proteus extensively. 

Skaal: A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should deserve theirs.

With the activation of Proteus as well as the arrival of Repton and the Raptor Gang, the tide of the battle was now against the Colonel. But this gang war was far from over. In fact, a final confrontation between the Colonel and Master Cyclonis was coming.
