Colton grabs two towels from the cabinet in our small cottage, which feel more like sandpaper against my skin. He instructs me to leave my shoes back at the house and bring everything else to wash. We also bring soap, but he says that it never works very well and just makes his skin sticky.

"Do we have to do this at the same time?" I prompt as I struggle to keep up with him.

"No, but the rest of the family is going to bathe when we're done, so it's either with me or with fifteen other people." He replies as we approach the lake. It's larger up close and doesn't exactly look warm.

"Can I bathe in my clothes?" I question. I'm not going to strip in front of Colton, especially since I have a feeling he would be critical.

He doesn't answer, but just gives me a disgusted look.

There's a bench placed next to the lake, which is where I sit down wondering if I should swallow my pride and just suck it up, or if I should continue to develop a stench and stay within my comfort zone.

Colton doesn't hesitate to undress, he crosses his arm and pulls his shirt off, and I feel inclined to look away but I don't. He has more muscle than I expected, especially in his back. I lower my eyes so he won't say something about me staring at him.

I hear the rest of his clothes smack the bench and I don't dare look. Once I hear him sloshing around in the water, I feel that it is appropriate to look.

"C'mon, Juliet!" He yells. I take a deep breath in and don't exhale, letting my chest tighten and my stomach tie in a knot.

***I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this.

I let out a long breath and stand up, taking my t-shirt off. I catch his eye contact. "Like what you see?" I ask, mimicking his tone.

    "You wish."
"Just turn around please." I scoff and wait until he turns all the way around. He begins scrubbing his skin with a small cloth. I remove the rest of my clothing, but wrap the towel around me. I want it to be close to me when I'm done bathing.

"There are probably so many diseases in here." I cringe as I dip my toes into the frigid water. I gasp and take my foot out.

"Come on, just get in. Even if you catch one, it'll go away once you go back to the Afterworld" Colton groans.

"How are you doing this, the water is freezing!" I pull my legs to my chest, peering down at the water, which doesn't look shallow. It's a deep blue and appears fairly clean, but I don't want to use the bath water that fifteen other people use.

"If you don't get in right now, I'm turning around." He threatens, which immediately makes me fall into the water. Even if he's joking I don't want to risk it.
