She lied.

Like being chained, I struggle to grasp for air. I look down at my palms, wet and glutinous they are. My head still spins. I close my eyes and I'm back in that burning home.

Blurry flames engulf every room all around us as I held my dying friend. My cheeks are drenched with tears.

But the police sirens grow louder from afar.

"Leave," he says.

Heavily, I comply. I stare at him one last time before I run.

Now, hiding in a dark room, I make a promise to kill her. But first, I need to disappear.
