We had stopped to rest at a town a couple miles away from our home, and since there was no form of transportation through those parts, we ended up walking from town to town, taking breaks in between.

I was a little upset at what Kevin's father was plotting, and I think Kevin knew that too.

He didn't meet our eye, his lip twitching with sadness.

Suddenly he collapsed. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" He cried, "I'm sorry I put you guys in danger!"

I held out my hand to help pull him up. He looked, up, blushed, took my hand, and hurried ahead of us.

When we reached the last town, Kiki and Luna said they wanted to go to the mall, so they left Kevin and I to do whatever we wanted.

We headed into a cafe, and we collapsed on the chairs, exhausted.

We ordered, and sat in silence, Kevin stirring his milk tea.

I whispered, "It's not your fault."

"Yes, it is, I should've known. I was supposed to know. We're family."

"No, you thought your father was a good man, how could you foresee this?"

He opened his mouth to argue, but his eyes turned down, knowing I was right.

"I was adopted a year ago..." He started.

I smiled kindly, "I could tell. You're a good person. If you had lived with him all your life, you wouldn't be as good as you are."

He blushed and smiled.

"Hey guys-" As soon as Kiki and Luna had entered the shop, Kevin kissed me once more.
