Why'd You Leave

No person has a right to condemn you for repairing your heart or how long you choose to grieve because no one knows how much you're hurting. Recovering takes time, and everyone heals at their own pace.

Albany sat next to the fire with Freyr and Odin after the boys had fallen asleep a few hours after meeting their grandfather, staring into the fire, searching for answers. She kept wondering if Faedra was still alive, and if she was, would she want to meet her as Freyr had? Freyr could see the chaos of thoughts rushing through his daughter's mind as she got lost in thought.

"What's your primary question?" Odin asked, seeing the same as Freyr

"What's your primary question?" Odin asked, seeing the same as Freyr.

"Is she still alive?" Albany whispered.

"Yes, she lives in Dublin, and before you ask, Fae didn't have any more children after you," her father replied.

"There are so many questions that I have, but this isn't the time. I have responsibilities and, for lack of better words, an entire village to feed. Why now? Why did you have to come and turn my life upside down this month?" Albany sighed, feeling the weight of her people again as she remembered she still hadn't killed anything.

"Would you allow me to start providing food to your people? Is it the least I can do to stay away for so long?" Freyr asked with hope in his eyes that Albany had not expected.

"As much as my pride says no, I have to think of everyone we provide for. You can, but I still need to complete my hunt. I will take us back to the ranch in the morning, but I have to return by lunch," Albany sighed.

"Why is this hunt so important to you?" Odin asked, not understanding.

"I was also born a wolf," Albany replied, her eyes shifting, "This is hunt is a literal hunt. If I don't kill a game animal, I can't keep it in check, which means my pack can't either."

"How is that even possible?" Freyr demanded.

"Achilles and I suspect that my birth mother, Faedra, had just been bit before getting pregnant with me. She would have never shown the signs because you can't change while pregnant," Albany answered honestly.

"There is six-point Whitetail a half a mile away if you want to continue your hunt. We can watch the boys for you," Odin suggested as he felt Freyr's mother, Hertha, dropping a large enough game animal into play for her granddaughter.

As if on queue, Albany caught the scent of the stag as the wind shifted, and she couldn't help going into her wolf eyes. Scanning the dark forest, she spotted the stag a half a mile south of her camp where Odin had said, and her wolf itched to hunt.
