when you go on a field trip and get an unexpected partner
'*•.¸♡ ♡¸.•*'
"everyone partner up, i heard it's a tradition from the villagers that you must be holding someone's hand during your walk inside the love tunnel," professor seokjin announced. you looked at your best friend, heeseung, as he gawked at his crush. gag.
"yah, lee heeseung, don't even think about-
"nako-ssi, d-do you want to be partners for the love tunnel?" heeseung scratched the back of his head, his eyes looking in another direction in fear of rejection. it was all over when yabuki nako blushed, holding his hand. damn it, now you can't go in the tunnel because you're all alone.
sulking by yourself, seokjin walked over and tapped you on the shoulder. "ms. y/l/n-ssi, do you not have a partner?" he questioned. you sadly shook your head no as he suddenly clapped his hand. perfect, he knew just what to do.
"yang jungwon" he beckoned over a boy with black middle parted hair. wow, talk about good looks. you two shyly exchanged a small bow as seokjin metally gave himself a pat on the back.
"since you two are now partners, remember to honor the town's tradition. no matter what, you cannot let go of your partner's hand until you both walk out of the tunnel," he explained, walking away to his partner.
it felt so awkward. his black converse shoes were pointing in opposite directions of yours, as your right leg restlessly bounced up and down. upon noticing, jungwon stuttered trying to form words.
"s-shall we g-go in?" he nervously trembled, you shyly accepting. he gently put out his right hand in front of yours, your left hand accepting it as you made your way inside.⭑・゚゚・*:༅。.。༅:*゚:*:✼✿
"it's so dark in here," you whispered. the sounds of the faint swaying of the river and your feet on the ground was the only source of sound you heard. the tunnel was pitch black, constructed like a canal and inside interlocked yours and jungwon's hand.
"o-ow" he quietly mumbled as you apologized. this was like the fourth time you accidentally stepped on his shoe. you couldn't see, but you could tell from his gentle tone that he was apologetically smiling.
"i should've just come to chem class, even that hellhole sounds a lot more fun than trying not to fall in a river tunnel," you lowly ranted.
"o-oh? what's so bad about chem? i love mr. taehyung," he commented, igniting a scoff out of you.
"yah, you like him? he's always giving out so much work. i don't care how many displacement worksheets he give, i'll literally never know what sodium displacing water to form sodium hydroxide is." he laughed. it was cute seeing you get mad.
"it's single displacement," he whispered as you angrily used your free hand to face palm yourself.
"i knew that!"
"i'm sorry!"
"i don't think you dislike him, it's the fact that you don't like being challenged," he observed.
"oh really?" you sneered as he grins to himself. you crossed your free arm on your left one as he rested his on his hip.
"let's see, you don't like the fact that we're walking in a dark tunnel-"
"well who would?!"
"let me finish. and instead of trying to find ways, we have managed to spiral into how much you hate the chem teacher because he keeps giving you work that you already know the answers to. admit it y/n, you're smart. you just don't like the idea of not knowing because it means you're admitting that you don't know everything," and with that you gulped.
wow, looks can be deceiving. you sighed as he gently squeezed your hand.
"well then mr. know it all, what do you suggest?" you muttered. you both continued walking now, his fingers still interlaced with yours.
"we're in a dark tunnel and the only way we get through it is to keep walking. besides, i think it's cute that i have one of the smartest girls with me," he sang as your eyes beamed.
"what makes you say that?" you stopped in your tracks. faintly, you can make out where jungwon's mouth was, a head above yours. you can feel his soft breathing; his feet naturally pointing towards yours now.
"even if you hate mr. tae, he actually talks about your class a lot. and how you're one of his best pupils," he added as you genuinely smiled.
"i didn't know," a wave of guilt and happiness washing over you.
he reached for your other hand, locking it with his and holding it over his heart. "i know, and that's okay. it's okay to give the unknown a chance, besides we might as well make the best out of this. after all, we can't disappoint a long lasting tradition now, can we."
