Miles parked the car in front of a small bar.
Not too fancy, but still fancy enough for Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix thought. He'd been staring at Miles the entire drive. That shirt hadn't allowed him to look away, tight around Miles' broad shoulders and arms. And his large hands gripping the steering wheel... it had been impossible for Phoenix to tear his eyes away.
But now, he had to get out of the car. Unfortunately. He would have watched Miles like that for hours if he could.
"Looks nice," Phoenix remarked.
"The best place to get cocktails," Miles replied, nodding.
"Though I think I'll mostly stick to the non-alcoholic ones. I still need to drive later."
He held the door open for Phoenix."Yeah, same here," said Phoenix.
"I mean, not the driving part. But you know how quickly I get drunk. And something is telling me I shouldn't get drunk today."It was true. Something was telling him that tonight would be much better sober. He decided to trust his gut on this one.
It was a nice little cocktail bar that also served food. Neither of them were very hungry, but they knew better than to drink on an empty stomach, so they shared a serving of fries before ordering their first - and only - alcoholic drinks.
They'd both decided to get a mojito. Something cold and refreshing was perfect for a day like this. It was already late in the afternoon, but the sun was still mercilessly heating up the city, and the city didn't like to let go of that heat.
Something's different today, Phoenix thought. He flirted back today. Even if it was only a little bit. Maybe his brain's overheated?
Phoenix chuckled at that thought."Hm? What is it," Miles asked, looking at Phoenix with a fond smile.
Phoenix realized he'd zoned out and Miles had apparently been watching him the entire time.
For a second, he didn't know what to say. 'Nothing' would have been too obvious. The truth would have made Miles overthink all of his future words and actions.
So Phoenix chose something in the middle."I don't know, you just seem to be in a really good mood today. It's nice to see."
He took a sip of his mojito.
"Also, this stuff is really good," he changed the topic. "I know what I'm getting for the rest of the evening."Miles shook his head.
"Didn't you say you only wanted one alcoholic drink? Wright, you're contradicting yourself."
He smirked.Phoenix smirked right back.
"Well, Edgeworth, if you'd taken a better look at the menu, you would've noticed that all cocktails are available without alcohol, as a mocktail, if you will."
He shoved the open menu across the table, turning it around so Miles could read it.What are we doing, he thought. Are we pretending to be in court? Are we... roleplaying?? Or are we just boring and can't think about anything other than work?
Miles pulled the menu out from underneath Phoenix's hand, his fingers grazing Phoenix's lightly.
Phoenix had been convinced that this kind of touch would send tiny electric shocks through his hand, but he realized he'd been reading too many romance novels lately. It did feel nice, though. And somehow it felt... intentional."By the way, Phoenix..."
Miles hesitated.
"...you're looking great today."
He turned his head to the side, blushing.Phoenix blushed even more.
"Thanks... so do you, though. That's a nice shirt."
He pointed at Miles' shirt through which his muscles were just visible enough to make you wonder what he looked like underneath. Only Phoenix didn't have to wonder. He'd seen Miles shirtless before. Well, in a towel. Same difference.
