It's been four days since Shane and Sammi left the house. They had to drive North instead of South for the first couple days because the Zeds were everywhere in large groups. But after the second day, they decided to start heading South.
But today, the van started sputtering and shaking.
"What's going on?" Shane asks, shaking and holding the handle above the window.
"We have been running on fumes for the past mile. Do we have any more gas in the back?" Sammi asks.
Shane crawls into the back to find empty seats.
"No."
"Grab the back packs, we have to walk the rest of the way unless we find another car."
Shane hands her grandma a backpack and pulls her own over her shoulder. She gets out of the car, hoping for the best.
They walk for a couple miles. The sun seems to get more burning by the minute. Shane throws her empty water bottle into her bag and searches for another.
"Nana, do you happen to have a water bottle?"
"I was going to ask you the same question."
Shane wipes sweat off her forehead and says "Looks like that's what we'll be looking for tomorrow."
They continue walking without talking.
